Possible WoW 2 in 2026

The thing is, they’d kill the game if they did WoW 2.

You see, a big segment of WoW players is people who’s played for years. Most of us keep coming back to the game for several reasons, some of which are:

  • Community: we have friends, guilds, etc.
  • We already know how to play. Even if things change from expansion to expansion.
  • Collection: we have collected rewards over the years. Even if it’s just AOTC, CE or other achievement to show off.

So, for a lot of us, those things are lost if a WoW 2 happens. People don’t just jumps into an MMORPG because it’s good. They know there’s a huge commitment when playing one and many aren’t willing to play a new one, even if everyone says it’s good. That’s one of the reasons a “WoW killer” has never happened.

WoW 2 would mean killing current WoW and trying to build an entirely new playerbase. it’s too much a risk.

A patch does not a sequel make.

There are also rumors going around that nano machines are being injected into us.

Anyways I don’t think Blizz has the cojones to make a WoW 2.

They’re also not stupid enough.

Those rumors existed for what is now Dragonflight, too. And the rumors about the South Seas expansion. And the rumors about Tinkers in the next* expansion. And the rumors about-

there isnt going to be a WoW 2. lol.
theyve done a great job of keeping THIS game running. Theres no reason to REbuild an entire game world when they have a perfectly functional one right now.

THIS game is unique in the genre.
WoW2 would end up being the same as ESO. lol.
If I wanted to play ESO. Id go play ESO.

yes…they would. Thanks for saying it. lol.
They cant even keep these complainers happy now. Rebuilding the game from the ground up isnt going to make them any happier.
Im NOT starting from scratch with this game
When WoW is retired, Im done…permanently

So they’re just gonna keep relying on whales to keep the game afloat eh? Meanwhile the player base slowly dies off. A bleak future indeed.

I guess short term that sounds great… long term not so much.

I both want and don’t want a wow-2 type thing.

On the one hand, current wow is kind of a mess. There is no cohesion, the different time lines are confusing especially to new players. The world feels disjointed and unconnected. The graphical difference between expansions is jarring. It is just so bloated, and I feel like a clean slate would be the best way to fix it, and starting over from scratch with a brand new game would be exciting.

That said, I’m also very attached to my characters and their progression, and I would hate to lose that. I don’t think I’d be able to play two games and maintain two subs, so I’d have to choose. For me I think I would probably end up starting over if a wow 2 came out, but I can 100% understand anyone who would be really upset at the idea of losing the years they put into this game and their characters.

exactly.
so they either make WoW2 and we have TWO COMPETING games to play…and I dont see most of us doing that.
OR…
they make WoW2 and retire WoW entirely.
AT which point tens of thousands of justifiably enraged paying customers leave and never return.

Either option is a no brainer

It would be more than twice as expensive to build a WoW2 than to replace all the infrastructure of WoWs servers and do a full graphics update. Blizzard would also be gambling on people leaving WoW for the new one.

If it gets too the point WoW really needs a WoW 2 the servers are just going to go dark, and the sun will set for the last time on Azeroth.

Yeah.

I think it’s more likely that we get a new cata that revamps vanilla zones. I also think we’ll get on that takes us to the other side of the planet.

I could also see, with the ability to have the Bronze dragons switch timelines (like the do at Undercity and Silithis) they could have expansions that return to TBC, Northrend etc and completely revamp those as “new” expansion zones, but have the option to visit the past version still.

I think that would be the best middle ground.

And every xpack it comes a little closer to fruition. How many players can they lose until they’re at the bare minimum to keep the servers on? I guess we’ll find out sooner or later.

Around a thousand active. Maybe less if they shadow empty servers. MMOs have gone on for decades with a much smaller base.

I think this game is two old to make another one of it. Maybe in like 30+ years after it ends someone will blow the dust off it, and try to make something for a whole new generation. I just don’t see it happening now.

I would really like if they did do a cataclysm event in the next expansion or two, and completely redid the broken world, to show that time has passed. Clean up Silvermoon, get rid of the Sword, fix Tirisfal Glade & Darnassus, maybe give the Worgans back their homeland. Stuff like that would be nice.

It seems Blizz has a pride problem… most of the servers are ghost towns but they’re too proud to shut 'em down.

It seems like you have an attention problem, in that you felt the need to make this stupid thread for it.
