So this came to my attention. Why would they add these icons to your character on the selection screen, unless they will soon not be hard coded to factions >.>;
Maybe its just for clarity? I mean if they removed factions why add those icons at all?
Some people have characters from both factions on the same server.

I am going to agree with this. On Thrall alone I have 3 Alliance characters, the rest are Horde. Right now I have them separated, Alliance toons at the bottom. An icon next to them will make it easier for some folks to recognize which is which at a passing glance.

Well if they keep adding alliance races that are just slightly purpler versions of races on the other faction it might help people tell what faction they’re playing at a glance.
