Curious, for those of you who are DH mains, what are your hopes for a new spec if this is indeed a new spec being teased? What different gameplay loops are you wanting and what niche would it fill?
I want Havoc fixed first tbh.
It’s been 10 years and the spec is still in shambles with no clear direction
My hopes are for a midrange class that weaves in and out with throwing glaives, really focusing on that fantasy and heavy on keeping debuffs and stuff like that.
Havoc is the zoomy zoomy range DPS, Vengeance is the zoomy zoomy Tank, we just need a zoomy zoomy debuff DPS
Pretty sure we need a ranged DPS class. Maybe model after alleria and make us void demon hunters where we get damage increases against void related demons. I could even see ranged DPS like Alleria plus some void based debuffing support.
I agree with the earlier post. Fix havoc first or side by side. Get rid of essence break and double down on fel based attacks for havoc and let’s make eyebeam the backbone of havoc. I think exergy is actually in a good spot with the right amount of movement without making it overly cumbersome.
I doubt it will happen. Havoc will stay a micro burst 16 button opener spec and I’m sure the new void spec will be some over complicated hot mess.
Beware what you want. A ranged DPS would endanger Havoc a lot.
I agree with the 3rd spec being a mid range DPS that debuff or maybe even as it debuff it gives its drain stats to its DH.
Having a type of glave that turns into a bow sounds and would look really good too…
The only thing I add so it differentiate with havoc is that:
- In normal mode you are melee and your attacks and movements more about teleporting, creating illusions (illusion can explode if they are hit or you can detonate them) that trick or confuse your attacker and let your either abunsh or flee depending on the situation. DH could come from other players shadows or use a this new mechanic to move around even creating small Void Tears to move with other teams or use them portals as weapons teleporting your throwing gravies through or were the glaive land you can teleport to them. Basically like a mix of Mesmer and Thief from GW2 but with Void Visuals. This is your heavy hitting and burst.
- Meta no longers drains rage, but it changes your gameplay to mid range and you fill the rage meter as your attack and drain it from your foes (also fall into the new theme and ability with the Artifact of turning us into energy, but DH take it to the next Level and use it as a New Weapon to fight the Void, I mean all that hunger tame in a flesh body by some tattoo runes only to be unleashed when in energy form kinda fits with DH whole Class).
- Here you whole gameplay is about draining and empowering yourself. You constantly hover and slow fall but actually have complete control as you fall almost like you are flying. Your attack consists of hit and run tactics. They could reintegrate and use ingame acest from other Void related attacks that we use in Visions, trinkets and other monsters we fought in the past… Or even rework some Evoker move like the Eternity Surge but Cosmic Void Theme with Tentacles Wings Filled with Eyes shooting lasers that explode in AoE wherever they land and being an unleash once you drain and buff yourself enough. Maybe some of the powers could summon eyes that shot Void Lasers. You can also store the drains energy of your enemies to turn to normal and empower your own attacks with your glaives.
- Maybe glaives can be charge and when thrown can become flying portals that can teleport foe and friend alike depending on what type of portal effect you pick that can even be even be control by the sigils put on the grown… Although I love if you could just port players in PvP really high up or on a cliff! lololol So much potential one can visualize with weaponizing portals!
- With a Void Portal Power maybe Spectral sight, Darkness or Netherwalk could change with this 3rd spec to could have some interesting things added especially now that we have this new energy system… maybe shift you completely if temporarily and behave like if you were dead walking to your body it could be added to allies or to yourself…maybe it could be use as a Void Sigil?
- Hero talent, there are many options… Light it could change some of your attacks or Meta to light that when hitting enemies it heals anyone near or buff them, Death they have access to the Dreadlords powers here I mean we do have a Nathrezim imprison so its possible we learn their ways of fighting and shadow manipulation were it lets you embrace all the shape changing tricks, stealth or full vampiric theme and Arcane could take inspiration from the Night Warrior, Warden (Meta could be Avatar of the Spirit of Vengeance that when killing a foe it raises it as its minion in the WC RTS I use to love this skill back in the day) and Spell Breakers with their Anti-magic powers could be any casters or any class worst nightmare where they could have abilities that would literally block you from casting or accessing your resources to use them… many, many ways they could go with Hero talents IMO!
- Flying yes, yes I know its not happening but… hey one can dream!
lol Also yes I been thinking on this a long time and even Roleplay on my personal Homebrew campaigns of DnD WoW theme RPGs… but I’m sure I am not the only one who through of these possibilities for a third spec, since I read much more details of other cool ideas here and there all over the internet!

Ranged DPS based on Throwing Glaives and Void Sigils.
everyone else suggests Guns and Bows for a ranged DPS spec, but I don’t want either, I just wanna throw my Glaives and use Sigil Magic at range.
My hopes for the specc is that it’s thrown in the trash. Why suddenly swap to void for a demon hunter? Thematically it’s just a lazy throw away thing to get people to stop asking for a 3rd specc and to shoe horn in void elf DH

My only desire is that they do a good job with whatever it is. Good lore, good balance, good execution.
I wish I had carried two 1H weapons, guns or crossbows, like a Gunslinger Demon Hunter, but this sounds very, very interesting.
It’s time to go for a darker, non-greenish color.
Could be just Laziness on Blizz’s part with Updating old things that play a part in Todays Content. But in the Lorewalking quests, Dimensius was classified as a Demon.
I feel like it was done on purpose, and will lead into the Void for the Demon Hunters and the new spec?
Edit Also…I think It would Funny, if the Metaform for a Voidspec was the old Warlock Meta…at least for a tier or two.

Would love for this third spec to allow for the class to open up some to other races finally. Will be interesting to try if its real.
Not really played dh much just because I dont like elf animations but eh will see how it plays.
Im going to need to do that because Dimensius is a void lord, not a demon. It wouldn’t shock me if Blizz just decided to upend more lore because “We need new thing”
Why can’t there be void demons that we hunt? I’m not a big lore person but why can’t we hunt void demons as the new big threat. Leave havoc with fel and illidan.
I agree with you. Warlocks enslave demons to do their bidding while DH’s use demonic powers to hunt/fight demons. If a Voidwalker can be enslaved by a Warlock but is actually a creature of the void, then a void-based DH is completely justified as there is some overlap in the magics that fulfill this purpose.
Because Demons are creatures of Fel, not Void. It would be like asking “Why can’t we have life based death magic.” They’re two competing forms of magic.
The problem is Warlocks are not wholly fel based. And voidwalkers are… dubious in lore as it is. Them being demons is a lore hold over from WC3 that has changed to them being void based aberrations.
