So I think the Great Vault was a really good addition in Shadowlands and I’m glad they’ll be keeping it in some regard. Some people mention that one of the negatives of it is receiving duplicate items (even though doing more content opens up your possibilities). To alleviate this possible problem, I have a possible improvement for the Great Vault going into Dragonflight.
Doing content still unlocks multiple windows of loot, but what if you had a choice. Let’s say we upgrade the vault from 9 to having 12 possible windows of loot. (Maybe killing 2/4/6/8 raid bosses, m+ dungeons, earning 1,000/2,500/4,000/6,000 honor from Rated PvP) Now, each time you meet the requirements of each activity, you can choose between:
A) Unlocking a window of loot, or
B) Removing 2 slots of gear from consideration from the vault.
You could cap this to have it be you can have a maximum number of 9 pieces of loot from the vault a week and you can choose to remove slots of gear from appearing a maximum of 3 times (to meet the new 12 limit)
For example, if you only PvP, and you unlocked all 4 rows of PvP windows, and 0 for the raid and M+, you have 4 choices. So you could pick 2 loot windows and 2 removal options (opting out of, lets say, Rings, Boots, Back, and Neck). You don’t have as many items appearing in the vault, but it’s much more targeted and you’re more likely to get an item in the slot that you wish. You could also go for 1 item and 3 removal options, getting rid of a maximum of 6 items slots, basically half of the loot pool. Or go all-in with 4 completely random pieces of gear.
Curious what other people may think of this.
I hate everything about Tuesday magic lootcrates and was very disappointed to hear it’s staying.
Let raid gear come from raids. Increase drop rates.
Let dungeon gear come from dungeons. Make end of dungeon gear be 1 drop from each boss’s loot table. Let valor and rating requirements be how getting stronger dungeon gear works.
Let PvP gear just be on the honor/conquest vendor.
Then crafted gear can fill some gaps.
Easy, simple, no waiting until Tuesday to open a lootcrate.

I’d rather they just bring back bonus rolls and do what those guys above me said: let raid loot drop in raids.
I would make two changes:
- Allow loot to drop with a frequency that assumes the Vault does not exist.
- Do not allow the Vault to drop loot with an item level greater than that dropped by the content you complete.
It works great as bad luck protection. You run into issues when it’s your primary and most dependable source of gear.
The best improvement is to rip out the Toxic Great Vault and forget about it forever!!! Just stop!! We had the best system you played the game and you went to a Justice and Valor vendor and bought BiS gear. If you PvP you went to an Honor and Conquest vendor for BiS gear.
If you raid you get tokens and guess what go to the Vendor!!!
Please don’t keep this weekly toxic Vault system in game it only causes aggravation, heart ache and makes people to unsub. It can’t be made good.

And yeah, the greater point is: if you are aiming for a more deterministic source of gear with true player agency, another layer of RNG is not the way to go.

Personally I think the Great Vault was one of the worst aspects of Shadowlands.
Vault should award emblems. You get a designated amount of emblems per rank of M+, raid or PvP. Then have a vendor in place. Emblems can then be used to purchase gear, upgrade currently owned gear or exchanged for honor.
Keep the system the same, you’re rewarded for the highest content you have completed for X dungeons and keep the cap.
Problem solved.
We get something we can play to earn and WE get a say in what we would like to purchase.
