Possible Achievement Point Bug

So, the guild tab lists character specific achievement points and the achievement point tab lists account-wide total achievement points. The guild tab doesn’t seem to add points from any blue-border achievements into the total calculated there. However, what classifies as a blue-border/account-wide achievement confuses me and I’m unsure if I’m encountering bugs or not.

Is it intentional for an achievement earned by one character to be marked blue/earned account-wide? This has been happening to me. For instance, the Dragon Isles Explorer achievement is marked as blue and therefore I believe it’s not considered in the point total in the guild tab. However, I haven’t even played an alt this expansion yet, so it’s impossible for me to have contributed to that achievement from another character. Do certain kinds of achievements just… not get counted anymore in the guild tab even when they are technically earned by a singular character? I’m very confused by this. If I had earned Exploring Thaldraszus on an alt and all of the other zones on this character, then the Dragon Isles Explorer achievement being marked blue would make sense to me, since the culmination of my toons achievements would then grant me the Exploring Dragon Isles Achievement. If the purpose of marking an achievement blue is to just signify that I’ve completed it before on my account in general, then why wouldn’t all achievements be blue? Apologies that this may somewhat also be a critique on top of a possible bug report, I found it hard to avoid with the nature of this question. Any clarity would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

The Guild Tab only counts achievements which are character specific. This means it will only count achievements earned on the character you are online on. It also means any achievements earned that have a blue ribbon will not count either in the Guild Tab as those are shared by all characters you may create.

If you hover over the blue ribbon achievements you have earned it will state “All of your characters have credit for earning this achievement”, While your other ones will state “Achievement earned by: (Character Name Here)

I’m not sure why Account-Wide achievements don’t count on the Guild Tab. However, It would be really cool if they would! However, For now if you want to compare your total points with other Guild members, You may do-so by looking up your Guild in the armory here on the World of Warcraft Community Site!

Cheers!

I didn’t know the bit about the blue ribbon hover, that is good to know. I am confused about what makes an achievement account wide when earned by a singular character vs. character specific, but I think that may be a question for another forum category. Thanks for the quick response!

The problem has never been about character specific vs account wide achievements. The problem is that the guild roster has never been able to properly track achievement points from an account perspective, because guilds are not account specific – they are, by coding and by (at least initial) design, intended to be character-specific things. You can join one guild on one character and one guild on another character. Blizzard hasn’t really acknowledged this because it would take a big overhaul of the guild roster system and/or the achievement system and the way they’re coded.

I have a guy in my guild who insists that he doesn’t have achievements on his main that he has on his alt, simply because of the hover over that shows “Earned by [Alt]” — it’s really big game of semantics.

Another good site for tracking ALL sorts of collectibles and things within your guild, if your guild is competitive or you just want to see how you measure up against your guildies, is the Data For Azeroth website.
