Possession of Xalatath

Wondering if someone could help me out here, as I feel I might’ve missed something. After the defeat of Uunat I recall bringing the blade back to Sylvanas, and then next it appears in Ny’alotha. How did it get there?

I see that wowhead posted some kind of dialogue between Sylvanas and Azshara but I have no idea where that was in game.

It is found during the fight against N’Zoth while in N’Zoth’s mind.

So here’s the full history of where Xal’atath ended up:

  • After being used to drain Sargeras’s blade, it ended up in the possession of Collector Kojo in Stormsong Valley. If you’re a Priest, however, you still have it. After feasting on some naga souls, the knife is restored to power.
  • Xal’atath the entity takes you on a trip to gather relics for N’Zoth. She then delivers you and the relics to him, including the now empty knife. She leaves in the body of a Blood Elf cultist (now a Void Elf thanks to her possession) and hasn’t been seen since.
  • N’Zoth then gives the knife to Horde players after killing Uu’nat, who then deliver it to Sylvanas. If you’re Alliance, you simply note that the blade is gone and tell Anduin about it.
  • Sylvanas and Azshara then meet sometime in between Uu’nat’s defeat and the opening of Nazjatar. She agrees to give Azshara the knife if she will ensure that the people sent to Nazjatar are all killed, or at least don’t escape. When the Horde falls underwater, Nathanos is seen leaving with the knife on a “secret mission” - presumably to hold up their end of the bargain.
  • Azshara kept possession of the knife all the way up to her imprisonment in Ny’alotha. After being rescued from Dark Inquisitor Xanesh, she gave the blade to Wrathion to strike into N’Zoth.
  • Wrathion then used the blade to carve into N’Zoth’s carapace, destroying the blade in the process.

Don’t we all?

I am also questioning what exactly happens to it AFTER Ny’alotha.

I don’t like her. I don’t get why a masculine weapon (Freudian here with blades) is a woman. She’s like the captain of Star Trek discovery that gets that dude killed by tribbles. More of this dominant white female bull that’s really enveloping the world, not just US politics.

I always felt that the Nathrezim Mindblade from Prince Malchezar was far more wicked and haunted. I wrote a whole journey how the blade wrought havoc on my character and how it had to be disenchanted by a Draenic priestess in order to remove its curse.

I wrote a bit on it a few years BEFORE blizzard introduced Class Order Halls.

I’m glade the blade is broken. It’s giving women a bad reputation of being sticklers, pun intended.

They steal good material and write off their customers.

It looks like it exploded. I’d imagine it literally overloaded with corruption after drinking straight from the source and just destroyed itself. Which isn’t a huge deal considering Xal’atath isn’t in the knife anymore.

That’s what I thought, but if it could contain Xal’atath then why would it overload?

Totally fine. Blades are masculine, like firearms. Feminine is the wand, the cup, the offhand orb. Why is the dagger a void elf woman? Why not a dwarven woman?

Use the Tarot minor arcana. The masculine sets are Swords (Spades) and Pentacles (Diamonds) and the feminine sets are Cups (Hearts) and Wands (Clubs).

I have praised Blizzard of their strong female leads, but the storyline is irrelevant in contrast to the overwhelming amount of problems with their gameplay. Gameplay First is nonexistent. It just seems that their creative development gets time to make Armors, Custscenes, but their systems development is always lagging behind instead of being ahead of the curve.

I didn’t like being sold.

Perhaps N’zoth made it so that he couldn’t be absorbed into the blade. he would be a fool not to do so, since it was in his possession.

I reckon it was Ashvane who introduced the two together. We know that Sylvanas had the horde rescue Ashvane from Tol Dagor for information.

She isn’t, at least not originally.

Xal’atath was a void creature (possibly even an old god if you believe some rumors that were presented in game) that was imprisoned within the blade.

She takes over the corpse of a blood elf female to give herself a new body. Think of it like Ner’zhul wanting to take over Arthas’ body so he could walk around again instead of being trapped in a block of magic ice.

Hence why Xal’atath used us to collect the 3 relics of power and delivered us to N’zoth. As a reward, she was able to be free from her prison.

Of course the exact Old God is unknown: Is she the 5th Old God or Y’Shaarj himself? I’m personally hoping she’s Y’Shaarj.

Next thing you know, they’ll be putting shoes on and leaving the kitchen! It might even become an international crime to gentiaally mutilate them. The Pakistanis might stop stoning female victims of assault, who knows where that might lead! Next thing they’ll be driving cars in Saudi Arabia!
