Positives of SL expansion

I know that the majority of players disliked Shadowlands expansion. But like every expansion it has to have some good portions that made it tolerable.

So basically what I’m asking is, despite all the bad things shadowlands have done. What were some positives it made to the game?

It had some pretty good mogs. Outside of that, an overall horrible expansion.

The only good thing I can think of was that lovely alchemist who called you “my apprentice” and if you gave him a hug, he’d hug you back.

I love that smarty pants. Anybody remember him?

Made a pretty big dent in my backlog of other games during SL.

Hating on SL is such a meme. The “bad things it has done” are lore choices that most people probably couldn’t care less about…or simply skip while questing.

Also catalyst?

It ended. That was pretty cool.

Dammit all. I’m not nearly as original as I like to think.

9.0 and 9.1 were good. I loved Tazavesh. I thought most of the zones looked amazing. And some of the fun stuff, like hunting Old Blanchy was a cool experience.

Some of the areas were beautifully designed. Then there is the music that helps with bringing them alive.

Sometimes the best part of an expansion is just exploring and letting the world suck you in.

1> Revendreth is an amazing zone. In terms of “Gothic vibe” it’s a 15/10!

1a> Castle Nathria is a great raid.

1b> I still want one of those carriages as a mount!

2> It gave us “Mmmmrazzz?” … “BUTTONS!!!

That’s … that’s about it.

I didn’t mind my first play through during 9.0
Yeah the Maw intro sucked to repeat but the first time was interesting, and I liked all the 9.0 zones. Story with Denathrius was decent and ended with the spectacle of Castle Nathria.

9.1 is when SL self-immolated and I bailed a week into the patch, only to return at the very end to prepare for Dragonflight.

I didn’t dislike SL… there really is not one xpac I dislike - I just enjoy some more than others. I put SL in the middle tbh.

I liked the spooky vibe
I liked the spooky carts you could ride
I liked the spooky zone
I liked the spooky raid

I like spooky things (movies, haunted houses, etc)

Hard to love an expansion when it was the most exploitative one to date. It was so universally hated we got the PG, casual-encouraging, expansion of Dragonflight.

I didn’t personally hate SL myself. If anything I had a lot of fun in it. Covenants and whatnot felt like typical Blizzard bull. I was so used to it at that point I didn’t think much on it. Same with the rep limitations and all that jazz.

On the plus side, I really really like leveling scaling. Playing with a pal at level 10 while you’re level 58 is pretty nice. Being able to go to any zone is also pretty nice. It was a big win for me.

Good cosmetics. Great raids with some interesting new mechanics. That’s all I got. It’s very rare for the art or raid teams to fail even in the worst expansions.

Everything else was terrible. Zones were terrible, outside of parts of Ardenweald and Revendreth. Questing was terrible (pretty much only Revendreth had an interesting story). World content sucked. World quests sucked. Anima sucked. The covenants sucked.

There was only one positive and it was purely aesthetic…Revendreth was an awesome castle City
Other than that everything sucked about it

Some of the transmog was pretty good.

Positive? Loads of cosmetics.

Of course obtaining them is a big part of what makes SL so bad, they were all gated by annoying time gates and excessive grinds.

I think he was also an integral part of the story in our victory over something with his war cries of, “a slime for you! Slime for yoooou!”.

Torghast was a fun game mode, ruined by the fact it was tied to endgame progression and just another chore in the endless slog of chores SL gave to you.

The covenants introduced some cool, unique abilities, some of which still define classes to this day.

It was an absolutely beautiful expansion, all the zones (save the Maw) looked beautiful and unique. Great mogs, too.

The raids were pretty solid, too. Castle Nathria still stands out as one of the best raids ever designed. You had a dance battle.

SL is easily the worst expansion, for sure, but even the worst has good things about it.
