Portals are a hot mess. They are randomly placed through out cities, the portal room is unorganized and it’s cramped. Some cities have a few portals to random places throughout the map with no reason as to why it’s there. Put portals all in a row in every city and have it be uniform throughout. I don’t want to guess what city I have to go to to get this certain portal to get to any location.
Feels like you’re being slightly dramatic.
Org / SW has every portal.
Every city has a portal to Org/SW.
Worst case scenario is 2 loading screens to get from one major city to any other.
It’s not exactly that simple. I know to get to Ironforge, I typically either use my Dalaran Hearthstone and then portal to SW, or use my cloak, if it’s not on cd, to portal directly to SW, and from there portal to Boralus and then to Ironforge. I’m not sure if that’s the most efficient path, but it’s the only way I know to get there quickly. That said, I don’t really mind having to learn some idiosyncratic ways to get around, it feels more realistic, but I understand OP’s point that it can feel like a mess.

???
Slightly?
A dedicated spot for each and every portal is “randomly placed”?
A specific spot with plenty of room between one another is “unorganized and cramped”?
Need examples; every major city except Stormwind and Orgrimmar just have a portal to those capitols whereas those two have portals to every expansion’s main city. You are trying to present this as if Thunder Bluff has a portal to Vol’dun when nothing like that exists.
This already exists for Stormwind and Orgrimmar, and every other major city has a portal to one or the other.
Again, you want to present this as if clicking a portal takes you to a random location when it’s borderline brain-dead on how to go from one location to another… Fire up those two remaining brain cells and, dare I say it, THINK!
Original poster puts drama queens to shame.
Grab an addon called Tome of Teleportation, it’s awesome, it puts all of your toys, challenge mode portals, cloaks, rings and anything else that can port you anywhere into a single menu and breaks them down by expansion. Whenever I’m going anywhere, especially in old content, i just open the menu and hit the portal that’ll get me the closest to where i want to go.
I do my best dangit

Portals are a hot mess.
That’s for sure. I mean, they’re fine for 1 person, but we’re expected to believe these are portals that everyone uses? What’s the point in having a boat go from Stormwind to Kul Tiras when there’s a portal? Can they make a portal big enough for a ship? Wouldn’t it be faster to transport all personnel by portal than by ship? What about large objects? Would it be faster to disassemble things and carry the parts through the portal than to deliver by ship? Why don’t we ever see anyone else going through portals? Do they have their own portals? Are those portals just for us? Why are the ships and portals free but the flight point rides aren’t? Is that what our tax dollars pay for? Do they collect the tax money from the Auctionhouse?
I actually will step up here to agree with the OP. The portal room gives you a place or name you’d have to search for on the map to know where it goes.
There’s no clear designation like “Draenor”, “Outland”, “Broken Isles” and I remember forgetting so long ago which would take me to where that I had to waste my time either trial and erroring it or trying to figure it out online or rooting around my map.
This isn’t very friendly to newer players who have no clue about the previous expansions and what’s what or where. Clearly the map will designate continents, why the portals don’t necessarily do something similar is beyond me.
-Ashran goes to Draenor
-Aszuna goes to the Broken Isles
-Caverns of Time takes you to Tanaris/Kalimdor
-Shattrath goes to Outland
To name a few. At the very least the labeling doesn’t exactly scream to you where it will take you unless you actually search for it on the map or look online or are one of the older players who know from past experience. I personally do find this to feel “unorganized”.
The thing you all fail to understand is that I follow OP everywhere in invis and drop portals in his path. You should see his confused face. Incredible.
Ah yes…the Legion portal problem revisited
The World of Portals.

There’s no clear designation like “Draenor”, “Outland”, “Broken Isles”
I usually just go by the race/faction of the mages holding each portal to determine where it goes.
I think that the Portal Rooms are too dark so sometimes if can be hard to tell at a glance though. You kinda really have to look because the rooms are so dark.

I usually just go by the race/faction of the mages holding each portal to determine where it goes.
I’ve got it down by memory now but new players aren’t really going to know what the race/factions making the portals stand for most times, or even notice them maybe.

Grab an addon called Tome of Teleportation
This is the quality information I like finding on the forums, you just cleared up several buttons on my action bar for me. cookies for you!
When I first started playing part of the joy for me was figuring out where everything is. I guess a new generation of players just want everything right now on a platter the easiest way possible.

Org / SW has every portal.
Not every portal. Most, but not all.

When I first started playing part of the joy for me was figuring out where everything is.
Honestly, after so many expansions, time jumps, city revamps and portals being added, removed and just moved around for no reason… sometimes i try to think about how to get somewhere and my brain nearly blue screens
(that’s why i love the above mentioned addon so much)
Oh for sure me too. I understand the appeal of having it more uniform and easily accessible, I just like to remember a simpler time when I wasn’t always in a hurry or needed that instant gratification. Just a boomer saying boomer things…

Every city has a portal to Org/SW.
They do?
Where is the portal to Stormwind in Ironforge?

Org / SW has every portal.
And visa versa, where is the portal to Ironforge in Stormwind?
The list goes on…
