Some people want high population cap. Ok, I will tell you what it's like:
Imagine you have quest for the head of Tharil'Zun. You see no mobs spawned, you enter that side and see like 4 groups trying to tap Tharil'Zun as soon as he spawns. :D
You shout - invite me to group guys! They invite you and you start using your aoe abilities quickly trying to tap the "scary elite" as soon as he spawns. :D In the end, one group wins, he dies quickly and you wait for another spawn for 10 more minutes. :D
Some quests become harder to complete I will agree. Saying you don't want anybody around so you can get more done is a fine argument.
Play on a low pop server and you won't have any problem doing your quests.
Other people want larger population servers regardless of the problems it can cause. There are tons of benefits as well.

While I don't think it's necessarily critical, space is going to be a luxury when it comes to farming. I'm sure everyone who played Vanilla at level 60 remembers where they spent hours upon hours farming x, y, or z to sell to make money, regardless of what you used it for.
For me it was was farming Fel Cloth from the satyrs in the northern part of Felwood.
Point is, right now if you play live, you don't feel the effects of the huge pop cap because there is so much room to spread out when you're not in one of the cities. If the pop cap is too high on Classic, the limited room is gonna be filled up and make farming difficult except during off hours.

In a scenario like that, unless you have a hunter or warlock in your group, i would say go and kill mobs for exp. When there is 3+ groups waiting for something of a swarm of people waiting for a item to spawn on the ground to click, unless you have a really good connection and you know what you are doing I would say just go and kill 20 mobs instead.
I agree that a low cap is necessary to replicate the "authentic experience" the devs are always talking about.
All arguments I see against it are either:
1) Servers will die without high caps.
(Do you really think people will dislike Classic?)
2) QoL based
(Obviously this shouldn't even be taken seriously)
I hope we don't see mega servers.

It's not a matter of liking classic.
It's a matter of recognizing a universal pattern that once a player has 'finished'* a game they're unlikely to come back very often or at all.
Most people have a favorite game, or movie, or thing that they will constantly come back to. Those are outliers, not the trend.
*: "Finished" is entirely subjective, especially in very long games with no clear cut ending.

I hope we don't see anything over 4k. I can accept 5k but anything above it will be too much. The people asking for mega servers are just people who have only played private servers. It can have some really fun world pvp, but i would prefer quality world gameplay than quantity.
We aren't sure how many new players will be rushing into each server. I'd imagine it won't be anywhere close to what it was in vanilla.
People heard about the game and kept joining servers. There was a constant flow of players being added that didn't stop till well after vanilla was over.
I'm fine with people wanting to play on low pop servers. There's nothing wrong with that. What I don't understand is this idea that "nobody should be allowed to play on larger servers because I don't like the concept"

There seems to be a small but very vocal minority of people that don't just want vanilla ice cream, they want to ban all other flavours and toppings.
If they find a person who likes sprinkles, they need to shame that person.

"Finishing" the game will take a pretty long time if you are at all interested in max level content.
Some people just played the game to level alts. My Dad is an example. He had at least 3 lv60 toons by the time TBC came out.
Either way there is a lot to do before you could possibly consider the game finished. If you're willing to roll multiple characters the content is practically endless.

I agree 100%. Megaservers on private servers are terrible. They weren't in vanilla, we don't need them in Classic.

I am usually pretty open minded about at least discussing most issues. Not this however. There are actual logistical reasons to keep the server pops low for Classic.
Trust me, when you hit 60 you will want a lot of people on your server. Sure, having a higher cap makes the leveling process more difficult and frustrating due to a bottleneck with more demand than supply of mobs and quest items.
HOWEVER, the alternative of having not as many players at higher level is worse than taking a few extra days to hit 60. The majority of your time is spent at level 60 so I would rather have an easier time finding groups, guilds, and raids at 60 than having an easier leveling experience.
The trick with high pop servers and high caps is to either get ahead of the zerg or take your time a little and fall a zone behind. The good news though with a large leveling player population is that you will ALWAYS have groups running dungeons and looking for more players (especially if they can't complete quests) as it can become more time efficient to do guaranteed exp than wait for quest mobs.
Just my 2 cents but I would prefer higher server caps over the alternative. Give me a slower leveling experience in exchange for servers that aren't dead except for the evenings when people log on for raid logging.

pservers are not mega servers.
ESO is an example of megaserver technology.

There are people asking for 2k population caps. What are you guys considering a "mega" server?
Some of the private servers had 12k+ pop with multiple countries playing, so off-peak wasn't that far off.

2.5k wasn't dead on a Vanilla server.
Some of you guys are worried more about "pure vanilla experience" than making the servers fun for people.
There's already 1.12 talents and items. Its going to be miles away from actual classic guys.

Blizzard is going to have Classic servers for each region most likely, off-hours are more then likely going to be a thing.

Yes that's why I brought it up. I'm saying that a private server had 8-12k people around the clock. So a pop of 4k peak isn't in the same ballpark.
I wanted to know what you guys consider a "mega server"
IMHO servers should be as high pop as possible. The low pop is the reason people and whole guilds leave the server (because of inability to raid when less than 40 ppl online and there is no one left to recruit for your raid time or long BG queues). My guild transferred in vanilla and I don't want to struggle with this problem again.
