I have been running a lot of AVs. I keep seeing these two terms, “Poors” and “Swipers.” This got me contemplating.
From The Outsiders
Greasers
- A youth subculture that emerged in the 1950s and early 1960s
- Made up of working-class and lower-class teenagers and young adults
- Known for their greasy, slicked-back hairstyle
- Rebelled against conformity, especially in their dress
- In The Outsiders, the Greasers live on the east side of town
Socs
- Short for “Socials”
- A rival gang to the Greasers
- Made up of wealthy teenagers who live on the other side of town
- In The Outsiders, the Socs bully the Greasers
In an Alterac Valley battleground…
Poors
- Indicating that the person is most likely poor and cannot afford to buy gold.
- Someone without an epic mount.
Swipers
- Indicating someone who “swipes” their credit card to purchase gold.
- Someone with an epic mount.
The big difference is that the Poors and Swipers are on the same team.

people who are too lazy, or not smart enough to farm gold always call people with mounts “swipers” in 2025.

Aren’t those the same type of characteristics the Socs would use to describe Greasers?

your analogy is all over the place
the difference between your two “sides” does not make sense thinking that the only way to get a mount is to swipe, both sides have different way to get epic mounts, its not only one side who would have
it is so simple, either
-you have a lot of time so you play a lot and so you can farm gold in game.
or
-you do not have much time to farm which means you’re doing something irl for money and so you use the money to buy gold.
time = money & money can save you time!
also i don’t think people without epic mount can be considered poor, epic mount is only 50$ everyone can pay that, so i believe the people without epic mount are just good people who do not wish to break tos and that’s why they do not buy gold.

Nah, just the ones that make it obvious.
People who hit 60 after 1-2 weeks and an epic mount within 3 days?
Swipers.
People who hit 60 after a month or this early this month with an epic mount?
Not swipers.
Some of ya’ll make it super obvious.
When ya’ll buy edgemasters, your epic mount, the devilsaur set, lionheart helm, and two flurry axes and you hit 60 3 days ago it’s obvious.

It’s people who play 40+ hours a week vs people who play 5-20 hours a week.

You can play 5hrs a week and make 500g a week on the AH alone.
What about the patient? I don’t know if paying 900g for a mount when a much cheaper one comes with R11 in 3 weeks is that good an investment of wow gold.
Depends how early you got epic mount, and what profs. Made more than 900g having 100% and getting herbs for almost 2 months.

What is the group for people who leveled a mage to fund their mains? People like me who bought an epic mount, but did not buy gold?
There’s a cheaper one now, av mount is 640g (for me, not sure if that is including rank 3, or other discounts or not)
I’m decent at the AH and arbitrage so I’ve made thousands, but calling people who don’t have the time to accumulate fictional gold in a 20 year old video game the “lazy” ones may be a bit of a stretch.

You absolutely cannot do this on these servers. The only way you’re making 500/5h is with extreme luck and/or VERY time limited strategies that may work for a day or even just a few hours.
This is a 20 year old game with robust tools for analyzing market trends, deals, etc. with a known roadmap for expected fluctuations in demand in various rare items and commodities. Even the most casual now have decent information regarding valuations from widely used simple addons. And even if you are good at it, you’re competing with a lot of other individuals who are also good at it. That doesn’t even take into account the bots scalping the lowest hanging fruit.
I hit 60 on Thursday and got my epic mount on Friday . Just finished learning all my spells and ranks yesterday lol. I went herb/skinning to save enough. I suppose that makes me middle class
You absolutely can if you know the market trend and corner yourself a small section of it.
With what gold?
Cornering specific markets can take significant capital, and like I said it’s time limited. Someone like me is going to come along and compete soon enough.
Playing 5h a week, ah only, and pulling 500g is beyond parody.
I mean I’m lazy but i found out a way to make alot of gold on ah with minimal work, before phase we are in right now, i was crafting dragonscale stuff and selling for +70%-120% of the crafting cost. I would just always make sure i had one of each piece on ah. During week i have time to log on for a couple hours a day at most, at 57 i had 3pc dragonscale(boots/ shoulder/ chest) and 2pc devilsaur and already enough for l epic mount + extra. The only people who can’t make gold imo are those who don’t try, lazy might be harsh, maybe inexperienced would be a better word.
If you were already level 60, you weren’t playing for five hours a week.

If you have two accounts, doing arbitrage on the neutral auction house can be easy gold. For example, on Whitemane you can usually find some guys on Ally selling bijous for 6 or 7 gold a bijou. Not many, but some. And when you do find them, they sell for like 20 gold a bijou on horde.
I made a couple of thousand gold last night in less than an hour by exploiting this difference.
