As much as I don’t like Genn as a chr, you’re right that those statues are an insult to their place in the overall story/history of Warcraft.
Seriously. My friends/family are amazed at the attention to detail and overall quality of these pieces. Most of them don’t even know one tiny piece of info about the WoW universe, they can simply appreciate how great these pieces are.
And if you think $500 is steep, there is a company that makes them (Warcraft ones, others too) with real leather, real metal, and REAL HAIR… and those are in the $1500 range. Lillith at $500 is a bit of a jump from their previous price-point, especially when it doesn’t seem THAT much more detailed than Illidan (wings, etc). But people go to IHOP and pay $12 for pancakes… which, frankly, I find much more ridiculous.
Apparently there was one… and now, there IS one! But it’s for CHINA only. >(
The “was” one, I can’t figure out it’s history. But if you look online, there is like an $18,000 one (not a typo) that I’ve seen other versions of and I can’t figure out the history of it. Regardless, it’s not in circulation anymore.
The “new” one, is a China-only promotion which… rankles me. >(
No idea how people just say “Silly decorative item” when everything from Wallpaper to a rare piece of art can also be interpreted in the same way by people from different walks of life.
Fortunately Lilith, succubi, and demons in general are not just based on a game. I’m buying it as a demonology/mythology fan rather than a D4 fan (though I do have very high hopes for the game).
Pretty standard price for statues of that caliber tbh. Check out Sideshowtoys to see similar stuff with similar (and some much higher) pricing. The price point is fair for a hand-painted item with that level of detail. Keep in mind it’s pretty huge (2 ft. tall!) too. I know people that spend what I would consider gratuitous amounts of money on their comparatively tiny figures for their Warhammer armies.
