Ok, let’s clear the air here a bit and really dive into why WoW players (including top WoW Streamers) think Corruption gear for 8.2 is good or bad.
To my opinion, I actually don’t like it. I really don’t. Corruption gear is a lazy way of removing WF/TF system instead we’re running around with a constant debuff until 9.0, boy, that sounds like so much fun! Running around with gear that’s perma debuffed for almost 8 months until Shadowlands comes out. So, initially you get a piece of “catch up gear” (ilvl 400) and you have corruption values added to that piece. This may seem “ok” for players who are well into ilvl 440+ going into 8.3, but not so much the beginning or average player with ilvl 400 getting gear anyway. Your day of demise for 8 more months begins when you have your first corruption gear. Over time, your ilvl 440+ character will feel the corruption, so, don’t worry, those of us who can take a punch now, will feel the effects sooner or later. This is a squish for the most part, a very bad gear and stat squish. The WF/TF increased your base and secondary stats which also increased your “survivability” let alone, WF/TF was RNG proc, CORRUPTION IS NOT…let that sink in.
With corruption values, based on ilvl and Tier 1-3 secondary affixes, you get to choose well over 34 combinations of additional stats to help improve your base or secondary stats of str/agil/intel/stam, haste, crit, mastery % values for example. However, the more corruption you have, the worse your corruption debuff gets which makes you think about you next choice in gear. But hold on, there are materials and certain pieces of gear that can reduce your corruption levels so it does not fatally kill you in seconds. Well, phew, that’s a relief Blizzard.
This corruption gear system is basically the Azerite gear vendor in Boralus. You don’t get to pick and choose your base stat of Haste, Crit, Mastery, Vers…and Corruption values that “can” be higher than your base stats. The ones you CAN pick and choose are the Tier 1-3 values. This is just another WoW Casino gone wrong where the player is pretty much a Kanai’s Cube in Diablo 3 hoping for the best roll in stats. I get the whole theme for 8.3 is Visions of N’zoth and the whole void, corruption theme, but, really, perma fixed a constant debuff for a whole 8 months? Who’s going to think this is actually FUN? “Well, don’t play it then if you think it’s so bad!”. Well, you’re right, we have a choice to play or not. I’ll still give the live version a try regardless. Oh and if you think your crafted gear through BS, LW, Tailoring is safe from Corruption values…it’s not. But hey, improved professions for 8.3 right?
If you watch Bellular on YT with his in depth analysis of Corruption gear…yea, it’s not a good taste in his mouth. Even he isn’t “excited” about corruption gear in 8.3. But can’t speak for others who are jumping for joy having a perma debuff for 8 months
