Poll: Is Corruption gear good or bad for 8.3 and why?

Ok, let’s clear the air here a bit and really dive into why WoW players (including top WoW Streamers) think Corruption gear for 8.2 is good or bad.

To my opinion, I actually don’t like it. I really don’t. Corruption gear is a lazy way of removing WF/TF system instead we’re running around with a constant debuff until 9.0, boy, that sounds like so much fun! Running around with gear that’s perma debuffed for almost 8 months until Shadowlands comes out. So, initially you get a piece of “catch up gear” (ilvl 400) and you have corruption values added to that piece. This may seem “ok” for players who are well into ilvl 440+ going into 8.3, but not so much the beginning or average player with ilvl 400 getting gear anyway. Your day of demise for 8 more months begins when you have your first corruption gear. Over time, your ilvl 440+ character will feel the corruption, so, don’t worry, those of us who can take a punch now, will feel the effects sooner or later. This is a squish for the most part, a very bad gear and stat squish. The WF/TF increased your base and secondary stats which also increased your “survivability” let alone, WF/TF was RNG proc, CORRUPTION IS NOT…let that sink in.

With corruption values, based on ilvl and Tier 1-3 secondary affixes, you get to choose well over 34 combinations of additional stats to help improve your base or secondary stats of str/agil/intel/stam, haste, crit, mastery % values for example. However, the more corruption you have, the worse your corruption debuff gets which makes you think about you next choice in gear. But hold on, there are materials and certain pieces of gear that can reduce your corruption levels so it does not fatally kill you in seconds. Well, phew, that’s a relief Blizzard.

This corruption gear system is basically the Azerite gear vendor in Boralus. You don’t get to pick and choose your base stat of Haste, Crit, Mastery, Vers…and Corruption values that “can” be higher than your base stats. The ones you CAN pick and choose are the Tier 1-3 values. This is just another WoW Casino gone wrong where the player is pretty much a Kanai’s Cube in Diablo 3 hoping for the best roll in stats. I get the whole theme for 8.3 is Visions of N’zoth and the whole void, corruption theme, but, really, perma fixed a constant debuff for a whole 8 months? Who’s going to think this is actually FUN? “Well, don’t play it then if you think it’s so bad!”. Well, you’re right, we have a choice to play or not. I’ll still give the live version a try regardless. Oh and if you think your crafted gear through BS, LW, Tailoring is safe from Corruption values…it’s not. But hey, improved professions for 8.3 right?

If you watch Bellular on YT with his in depth analysis of Corruption gear…yea, it’s not a good taste in his mouth. Even he isn’t “excited” about corruption gear in 8.3. But can’t speak for others who are jumping for joy having a perma debuff for 8 months

Doesnt seem fun, you are only gonna go after 1-2 tier 3 effects, the drops that dont have that and arent t 3 are gonna be disappointing.

What SOUNDED like fun and making the drop exciting would be if when you remove corruption you could get a socket for losing the effect and corruption, that would still make the corrupted drop feel like it has value if it doesnt have the effect you want.

Making socketing gear highly valued because they can only otherwise be made through the expensive item would make that system make corrupted drops you dont like their effects be more exciting in a way because you get a socket, now you have to pay some currency to use your drop, you cant even instantly equip it if it has a stupid effect you dont like with a lot of corruption,.

I’m baffled at how confusing gear has become in BfA. In every other single expansion I could figure out which piece was an upgrade and which wasn’t with just a little understanding of my class but in BfA I’ve got to friggin’ sim every single piece of loot I get because who the heck knows which one of these weird azerite traits or corruption traits is better or worse than the other.

Way to go Blizzard, BfA completely obliterated any fun I had with gear. If anything I’m actually a little annoyed when I get loot nowadays.

I think for min maxxers it will be terrible, but maybe for others it could be weirdly fun, or they just wont care.

I have not looked into it at all. But I heard some things, and they all sound bad.

I am getting sick of the stupid gimmicks. Azerite gear was a joke, so were essences, and now this?

Yeah. Azerite Gear has made BfA irritating as all heck. The neck essences are acquired in horrible ways. And this Corruption gear looks to be even worse.

Stop the gimmicks with the gear please. Or maybe just one slot. But now we have a neck for essence grinding, 3 Azerite pieces to min/max, and we are adding corruption values.

Dear god, man.

It’s a gimmick, like 90% of an expansion’s features. Either way, we’ll play it. If it has staying power, then I will continue to sub. If not, then I have a backlog of steam games that need to be caught up.

Personally, it comes across like they’re upset about the negative feedback that comes from titanforging.

“What?!?! They don’t like it? Well then lets see how much they like a system that can actually kill them!”

Can’t wait to see what Mythic progression looks like in the WF race…

Being penalized for having better gear is never a smart design.

It feels like the design team is jumping the shark every patch trying to find something that makes the customer base happy. If they just dialoged with us and fixed all the broken things, that would be way better.

Could you imagine if 8.3 was announced to resolve the dependence on RNG, put in a pvp and pve gear vendor system, make AP and lvl 3 essences account wide, fix bad GCD changes back, bring about real class changes to fix very under preforming specs, allow all races to be played by either faction, remove PF from all old xpacs, make more than 3 professions valuable, don’t have massive quests to unlock races which suck for new people (I will never play horde since the character I want it so gated and hard to figure out how to unlock them, it is not worth it), etc…

Make those announcements and 8.3 could be the best patch ever.

We should remove all this crap.

If blizzard wants modifiable gear, professions are waiting.

Bs,lw,tailoring maked ilvl packs.

Engineering does on hit or passive effects.

Jewelcrafting gems in sockets, adds sockets.

Materials drop in dungeons and raids, higher m+ or raid quality for higher boosts.

Something other than korean grinder rng.

More BFA garbage. Is anyone even really surprised at this point?

I’m Just planning on keeping my corruption at 0 and scraping the gear like the junk it is.

A pain for min-maxers (what isn’t these days) but for me it thematically fits the patch. If this was a single player rpg then these rpg mechanics on gear would be great - dependent on the theme of the story. With WoW being centered around instanced content, this kind of mechanic for gear isn’t lazy by any means, it’s just trying to deliver an rpg feel to N’zoth corrupting Azeroth - while going into some piece of content - having to juggle what I can wear, what I can’t, how far can I push it so I can perform optimally, is going to not be fun 'cause the application in those scenario’s differs in terms of how a player feels, compared to questing with said mechanic. Ultimately you’ll still be cleansing most pieces in the beginning. So it’s like… why have it in the first place, lol.

At this point I guess it’s up to the players that still play going forward, to treat this as a 9.0 test of sorts and voice their opinions UPON TESTING to say what you liked, didn’t like, and what they could fix etc… this system isn’t permanent, but it’ll be influencing the team for 9.0

I’m not even going to bother with the debuff crap and just cleanse any and all pieces I can.

This is what I’m afraid of, having another horrible gearing system thru another whole expansion.

Not in the slightest. We min maxxers will decide the maximum amount of corruption we’re willing to live with, click ‘Find Top Gear’, equip what it tells us, and never think about it again.

Or just purge the corruption off your corrupted gear and don’t worry about it? As you earn corruption resistance you can start wearing some, but just keep net corruption at zero and never worry about it. Mild power loss at worst. It’s like losing a socket.

why don’t they just fire all these diablo 3 idiots, and bring in some fresh faces that can make a fun game?

They said it themselves that they are waiting to see how the corruption stuff goes and other things before they decide on what they want to do going forward. So BE AFRAID! BE VERY AFRAID! lol

What will that do when you still have the same ‘‘calling the shots’’ people that’ll continue making off-the-cuff decisions just 'cause they think it’s fun. I’d love a fresh team (keep the art and music people) and see what kind of fresh ideas that would bring.

the purge would definitely need to start at the top.
