Poll: High value BoEs default behavior

So just curious what everyone thinks the default roll behavior is for a high value BoE.
(If someone specifies rules before the run obviously those trump this)
So like if you join a pug and a BoE epic drops that sells for 500g+ who should be allowed to roll on it?

  1. everyone should roll need, that gold can be used by everyone

  2. whoever can use the item has priority

  3. other(please specify)

  1. If you can, and will use, for something other than making an item to sell you should get priority.

This is too hard to enforce so really everyone should just greed and be done with it. But as always, talk to your group and explain the situation. “Hey guys, I’m in this instance for X and I would really like it. Is it cool if I took it?” More often than not people will understand and be cool with it.

The general rule of any pug I run will be “if you need it, you must equip it”

But the reality is that all of our dungeon runs will be guild runs where everyone is a normal human being

Again if someone sets a rule that everyone agrees to before that would trump this, just saying what should be the expected behavior if nothing is mentioned before the run.

Like if everyone is running SFK for leveling and shadowfang drops, should the rogue get it? Or should it be free roll for everyone?

Shadowfang is a BoE BiS weapon for 19 twinks and sells for ALOT usually.

The whole point of this thread is to show that this is or is not considered a ninja action.

If you need it, as in you will put it on as an upgrade then Need it. If you want just for the gold, then it is greed, which is why its called a Greed roll, as in money or in this case gold.

If I am in a group of randoms, I always wait to see what they do first. If people who dont actually need it need roll on it, I will too, if only people who need the item need on it and everyone else greed roles, I greed role unless i actually can use the item

If the Rogue is going to use, then yes the Rogue should get it. I would say twinks fall into this category as well.

NEED before GREED. While everyone needs gold, there are nearly infinite ways to make that.

Yes and that rogue can buy it off the winner of the roll, why does he get prefrence for the item?

If it is BoE and your current toon can not use it but your alt Twink really needs it, what about then?

I thought that the whole point of this thread is to serve as a rationalization for your in-game greed

In a PUG, everyone should need and this should be stated at the beginning.

The question is too vague. Anybody and everybody “can” use an item due to alts. If you want to clarify it as only the character is present on the run, it is still too vague. Take Stockade Pauldrons, for example. What if the only Warrior or Paladin in the group is playing as a role other than tanking? Sure, they can use those shoulders, but that is not what they are present for in the current run.

In situations of clear need, I think a Need roll is justified- provided of course that the person instantly equips the item. Otherwise, everybody Greed and no hard feelings.

Roll greed and then buy it off the AH if you lose the roll (or make an offer on the spot)

Everybody rolls need. Not just one person who waits until the last second.
