Can we make the discussion of politics punishable by ban?
In game I have to leave general and trade chat because non-stop arguing over real life politic events and about which party is worse. Who is at fault for real life events. All sorts of nonsense.
I play a game in order to escape real life and enjoy my free time. I believe others do it for the same reason as well. Why should people be allowed to bring up controversial and annoying topics in multiple channels? In addition, I have seen political topics brought up in the forums too.
Nobody cares about my opinion on political topics, same as yours. Leave it to real life, not here.
I should not have to leave the only two chat channels there are in the game so that I don’t feel like I’m being force fed 20 IQ opinions about topics I attempt to avoid by not watching the news.

i personally don’t mind discussing politics but it has a tendency to turn very nasty very quickly and it just kinda snowballs from there

I don’t know…
It seems wrong to silence people for discussing things just for being political

Only issue I have with irl politics being discussed is when I see multiple threads about it in GD. There’s an off topic section and people don’t seem to understand that’s the area where these things should be discussed.

Slippery slope. Agreed 100%

I left trade chat too. It’s been constant racism for the past few days. I don’t have time for that.

Agree 100% Games should be an escape from IRL garbage NOT a place to argue about it.

You’re an authoritarian.

There are lots of non-political, non-WoW threads in General Discussion. GD always includes a little bit of real life (or it would probably get dull really fast). Does OP want to ban those who post coffee or pizza threads, too? lol
Yeah. I’m ok with just moving the threads into another forum.
Silence would be reserved for when someone keeps posting the same stuff even after they’ve been moved.

You don’t want to be too heavy-handed. Sometimes people can start an… “intense”… discussion with an innocent question. Banning them for that isn’t exactly fair.
Unfortunately, the best solution – the forums actually self-regulating and telling the person they shouldn’t bring it up and leaving it at that – doesn’t work. Internet forums are the antithesis of self-regulation.

I’m not disagreeing with your OP but playing WoW is real life too. It’s annoying if you’re not into the politics of things or the drama, I don’t care for it but I do understand that it’s an Election year with the Country on fire after 100k+ people have just died in the USA to Covid.
Are you expecting people to just switch off when they log in? I find that unreasonable.
You can fill up your ignore list like I did last election year and then if all else fails turn them off completely.
No this is not ideal, but it’s what we have and that’s how I deal with it.
I love talking about game stuff, I could chatter all day about WoW!

Yes, I expect people to ignore it and use the game as an ESCAPE. Not a place to discuss more of their anxiety. If they want to discuss it, there are a thousand different places. Social media, Reddit, WHISPERS, communities inside of WoW, etc. General chat, trade chat, and general forums aren’t the place in my opinion.

And if people can’t or won’t do it on their own then it’s time for warnings and bans.

So turn the chat off or ignore them. Banning anyone that dares to mention a real life topic isn’t the way to go.

You shouldn’t have to leave a public chat channel to escape politics. It doesn’t belong in game at all.
