It just feels like they gave all of three seconds of thought to Dracthyr weapon availability, you know? Polearms are much more fitting than most of what the copy/paste job from Shamans made available.
Yep. That’s why you see them using polearms/spears in the animated shorts they released.
It’s the rare case of an undercooked ad hoc mechanical decision overruling the Rule of Cool.
The artists know how good they look. We should certainly get this stuff accessible in-game.
I’m still finding this to be a strong desire. I haven’t been able to settle on any weapon that feels “right.”
They could just make staves that look like polearms. A polearm is just a fancy staff anyway,
All that armor, not one tank. What a joke.
Polearms would make my fantasy very fancy. Alas… I am but a poor and humble Dracthyr maid.
All that armour, and no ability to choose your own.
I want to Tank on Evoker with a spear!
Just such a shame how many shortcuts they took with this race. Just… Take an extra six months, get the mogs in place, expand class selection, and make it a GOOD race instead of the one-trick pony it currently is.
They did seem to stumble a little at the finish line, although I don’t think they did as catastrophically as you. The choice of weapons does seem to be rather thoughtless - why would 2H axes make sense while polearms do not? Simply because they imported overt the Shaman weapon set and made a couple small alterations instead of actually asking themselves what makes sense for Dracthyr thematically.
It was a functionary decision when it should have come from that class fantasy/RPG perspective.
Restricting them to a single class was always going to fail the racial fantasy in my eyes because no race is a hive mind, they’re not all going to walk down the same paths in life as well as when adventure calls.
It’s clear those Dracthyr that failed to become Evokers weren’t killed off, so what became of them? They could be the Warriors, the Druids, the Rogues, Priests, Mages… So many more stories to tell and ways to expand Dracthyr availability, and they chose the laziest and most bone-headed option of, ‘nah.’
I’m sure they exist. We just don’t play as the failures that were unable to achieve the title of Evoker.
That’s needlessly restrictive though. Plus, it expands class selection and race viability by a ton. Not every Human character is the ‘best of the best’, nor every Orc, and so on.
Wait… The Dracthyr are using polearms in the Legacies shorts. They’re soldiers who… fly… and we can’t use polearms?
That’s arguable.
Again, we eventually get to the point of becoming legends, but we certainly don’t start legends and the top of our field.
Same thing with Dracthyr. So a particular Dracthyr couldn’t cut it as an Evoker, doesn’t mean the door to Mage, Warrior, or some other class has closed.
I think they should like they can use literally every two handed weapon except the weapon their showed using in the Legacy Cinematics it makes no sense.
They literally use polearms in the legacies cinematic.
