I like poisons, dont get me wrong but I would like them to be optional too.
Cant we get a talent that allows us to replace poisons? At least for specs like Outlaw or Subtlety that wont be focusing their dmg on poisons itself but more utility wise.
I would love to go outlaw and opt out of Poisons for something like, sustained dmg increase instead of thinking dot.
This way you can decide your playstyle.
Sorry if im pissing other rogues off, its just what I would love to see.

God yes please. I really haven’t missed not having to use poisons as an Outlaw Rogue. Honestly was pretty disappointed this was the Rogue “unprune” lol.

I think its good to have them back as an option.
A situation I would use an example is the one following:
Your group needs a mortal strike type ability, you want to play outlaw instead of assassination (i dont know, rbgs? arenas? Eventho other spec is better, you want to play Outlaw and they are fine with it but need Mortal Strike) so you change that talent and use Wound Poison.
After that you want to go back to your regular Outlaw style of smacking ppl with heavy weapons instead of dots.
Yeah, for PvP it sounds good. I’m just hoping that’s the main reason they’re made available to all specs again. Just not really interested in the poison aspect for PvE. Idk I was never someone who was clamoring for more “class identity” and less “spec identity”. I have favorite specs not favorite classes. Guess I’m in the minority.
Even if you are in the minority this covers everybody, doubt its a problem for them to add a talent that simply removes poison for the spec and adds something else to it.
Instant Poison is one of the returning poisons, and Outlaw will probably get it, so this may not be an issue for you after all.

God no.
Poisons and bleeds are something I miss tremendously as a combat rogue. And as a current outlaw rogue, I’d absolutely love a means to keep dealing damage to raid bosses while I have to run around the room like an idiot.
I do think we should ditch RtB though. I was thinking about how useful BotE is for us, and how we’re basically just rolling dice until we get a freakin’ crit buff. Just replace bones with some kind of crit boost.

Honestly I would like something more Outlaw like than a bland poison that does dmg.

How about just let them do what they set to do. A rogue without poisons in general is like dating a chick with one boob. Just play another class if you don’t like what the rogues were initially accustomed to be with poisons as their bread and butter identity. They struggled to make outlaw have optimization talents now and you want an option not to have poisons. Yeah…GG on that one.

Thats the reason im saying “optional”. If you want a dot dont go for the talent i am talking about and play with poisons.
@Bonesjackson Ive played rogue with poisons since 2004 and I understand what you mean, I just like the idea of not using poisons in every single spec.
Why cant it be optional? Just like other classes have the option to opt out of pets.
We are not talking about what does more dmg, or performs better in general. Just a playstyle.
IIRC warlocks can opt out of pets with a talent too.
I’d hate for a talent option to be wasted on something so minuscule that it’s basically just cosmetic. Especially when poisons are a core part of Rogues. They should’ve never been removed from Sub/Combat to begin with.

Hopefully instant poison fills this niche so players that want Outlaw to be about instant damage don’t have to worry about it too much. I still 100% maintain that poisons shouldn’t have a totally pointless timer on them and should be buffs that last forever though, especially now that they’re going to be forcing all 3 specs to have to manage them again.
This to me is super important. Keep Outlaw style as it is now and make poisons a buff without a timer.
I am not the only one who thinks this. In this thread alone you have 3 ppl who get annoyed by having to apply poisons.
@Melwyn your idea is in the right place but reality is there are a lot of dumb passive talents that could simply be built into the spec. Example: Alacrity.
Put Alacrity as base and replace the space with a poison free talent with a bit more of flavor than simply clicking a poison every 60 minutes.

Why would anyone not want poisons that bypass armor which great for PVE and PVP? Please explain this to me haha.

Pvp wise, poisons have real potential to make Outlaw viable again (not taking any other possible changes into account at the moment).

Thematics mostly. To some people outlaw is the duelist/swashbuckler spec. If you want to play a cunning, light armor wearing fighter that utilizes weapons there is literally no other option in the game. To those people the idea of their character that is supposed to stand toe to toe with someone and beat them with cunning and skill using poison walks all over the theme. Do poisons make the class better? Absolutely. Do they destroy the theme of the character for those players specifically and leave them with no alternative? Yes again.
To be a bit hyperbolic, for those players it would be like adding magic damage to an arms warrior. It would be better, but goes against the theme of the spec. Obviously poison is iconic for rogues in general, and magic damage on a warrior has never really been a thing, but sometimes something that is better in a vaccuum or generally iconic can destroy someones concept for their character, which is one of the most important aspects of an rpg.

Pirates and duelists use poisons all the time.
The original theme of Combat was you specialized in different weapons, and in combat skills physical AND poisons.
I am glad poisons are coming back and hopefully the Yahtzee spec is no more!

don’t think of them as poisons if it destroys your character perception, just think of them as talents that let you go toe to toe with whoever. current set up, wound and mind-numbing. let’s you have something against all-comers.

Thanks for puting words to what I couldnt explain.
I like my rogue hitting things and shotting things, not poisoning things. But hey I understand how other players feel about it and thats why Im hoping for an “OPTIONAL” talent or way to actually not use poisons instead of simply not having them.
Im not saying im not going to use them because there are situations in which Wound Poison is great (pvp wise) and I would def swap to it as needed but in general i rather not.
