Poison and Disease Cleansing Totems

Can we have em back as resto please? It’s such a huge part of my classic toolkit and it would be amazing in places like Plaguefall. Blizz please reunprune us!

As much as I love them totems, they we’re way too OP. Also resto’s toolkit is filled to the brim with awesomeness.

Then maybe make them talents like EWT or EGT. Give us the choice of totems based on type. I don’t think that would be too much to ask. Part of the skillcap of playing a shaman is all about the right totem for the right situation. PC totem means to cloudburst or healing stream, etc.

Or alternatively, make them baseline but work them like the Tremor rework. You can’t just have it down all the time. You have to pick your spot because its a short duration on a longer CD.

IF they ever did bring it back it would be heavily nerfed version that was in classic, etc.

I doubt you’ll see it’s return, it’s like Tremor Totem. They like things to be premeditated or reactionary. If it did come back it’ll be a CD based totem that lasts a limited amount of time.

Yeah that was my edit. Even that would be a great addition in my opinion. Short duration, medium CDs so you have to choose your spots to maximize effectiveness. I think the Tremor model would be great for the others.

They won’t come back ever because shamans dispels were moved from poison and disease to curse, magic and offensive dispel.

Every healer gets magic and 2 others.

You’re comment implies homogenization amongst healers which is untrue. Shamans don’t have a Tank DR like Ironbark or Sac, Monks don’t have a tool like spirit link, etc. So healers have some of the greatest diversity of utility in the game currently, which can be a detriment at times. By your logic why should shaman be able to break groupwide fears?

There was homogenization among healers…for dispels.

Every healer was given access to 3 dispels.

Dispel - Wowpedia - Your wiki guide to the World of Warcraft (gamepedia.com)

This was done in cataclysm, partly in response to shaman moving from disease/poison cleansing to curse cleansing in WotLK (which in itself was in response to hard countering DKs).

There were cries that certain healers couldn’t remove magic debuffs, and that it was an issue for group composition not only in 5 mans (which were incredibly “difficult” at the start of Cata until nerfed due to mass crying) as well as raids (particularly 10 mans).

Therefore, Blizzard decided that every healer would get access to magic dispel as their baseline, with 2 additionals.

For shaman, we kept curse removal and an offensive dispel, and gained magic dispel.

Over time, as certain pruning and unpruning happened, this skewed slightly as druids got back the ability to remove enrage effects (which is rather situational).

If you look at the other comparable healer to shaman for dispels, which is priest, you will see that Priest also only has 2 dispels attached to their cleansing spell.

Disease and Magic. However, like Shaman, priest also get an offensive purge. Priest go even further in having a mass AoE dispel (one that removes immunities which makes it quite useful for pvp). This dispel however, only dispels magic.

Shaman also have a mass AoE dispel in the form of Tremor Totem, which targets sleep, charm, and fear effects. Nearly every one of those types of effects is a magic effect, with the outlier being wyvern sting as a poison which remains a holdover from the past days of Shaman.

Dispels were homogenized to make things easier for dispelling, but its still an issue as seen by dungeons like Plaguefall where there is stacking poison dmg that priests and shaman simply cannot deal with, thus making them less desired than other healers. However, both priests and shaman have access to other options in their defensive toolkits to help mitigate this particular poison (Bubbles and Earthen Wall totem).

I never said defensive cooldowns were homogenized, and my previous comment was specifically about dispels. Anything implied outside what I actually wrote, is coming from your frame of reference. There are also blue posts from way back when addressing not only why they decided to give all healers access to dispel magic, but also why priests and shaman only had 2 defensive cleanses compared to the other healers’ 3 (Again, because they get an offensive dispel).
