I saw this thread on the EU forums and thought it had some excellent reasoning on making the new half elf ears available as a customization to players.
Personally, I’m always in favor of more ways to customize our characters! What do y’all think?

Yes, more customization options are good. I can see reasonable lore-based restrictions on what races could viable produce a half-elf (Pandas and Vulperas probably don’t meet that criteria, possibly others for “reasons” technical or lore).

Well, I am always down for more customizations, and since I can’t play an elf Paladin on the Alliance, a half elf would be the second best thing.
Im betting it will be a questline reward similar to the night warrior customization

Why would there need to be restrictions on viability? Elves are just as related to pandaren and vulpera as they are to humans.
You can cross a donkey and a horse to get a mule, but mules are sterile. Other cross-breeds simply won’t produce an off-spring (incompatible on a DNA level). There can be lore to back up the technical reasons for whatever limitations the devs want to impose (including: “it was difficult to code due to graphics skins/rigs/clipping for that race so we didn’t offer it and spent those dollars elsewhere”).

Elves and humans aren’t related at all is my point. Elves are a natural species of Azeroth that was shaped by arcane magic. Humans are malfunctioning robots.
If those 2 completely unrelated species can cross-breed then any combination should be able to and any restriction is just arbitrary.
A half-elf Paladin was my first ever DnD character so it’d be nice for that option to exist in game.
I’m still just worried we’re giving the Alliance another powerful army. Kinda making the Horde useless and probably absent to the story later. 
edit: Although it has to happen because there’s a Lothar. The chance it’ll be a customization on humans is very likely. 
I am all for ear customization, but for the love of the unholy can we please get an option to trim elf eyebrows?! Have you seen those things?!

I think more customizations is nice, as long as they make sense, this is a nice addition for rpers.
I don’t understand how we get ear options before more hairstyles/ jewelry/ or facial hair for the men tho.
Still I appreciate the thought that went into this.
