How about no
I wouldn’t play any game without some form of tangible long term rewards. Full stop. I know several people who share this opinion.
Is league of legend’s not a pvp game because it has monsters?
This logic will never stop being funny to me. “If they stop giving X, people will stop doing Y!”
This same logic is used to defend all sorts of silly things, like having the best gear available via time attack dungeons. (“If you fix dungeon gearing, everyone stops doing the poorly designed time attacks!”)
If nothing else, if this logic is the argument, there should at least be a stop and pause moment where you zoom back and go “Wait, if we have to coerce someone into this, did we make it fun?”
For example… I am waiting on remix 2. The reward for playing remix? Literally none. It was just fun and I want to do it again.
Remove the rewards. Otherwise, engagement metrics are simply GIGO for bonuses.
Ahh, and everything was lovely once again.
Been waiting for these posts
What can I say, don’t participate.
Also I love when people make it look like you are forced to pvp in plunder, map is so big you can play girl scout around bushes and farm coins and killing mobs.
It’s a PVP mode. The only pvp mode out of like 10 yearly PVE events.
Again, you don’t have to do it.
To be fair, it isn’t trolling. It’s the end goal for this event: be the last man standing.
I don’t like PvP myself, but this is essentially a PvP-mode event.
Let’s say a PvE mode for Plunderstorm is made.
It would be, bar none, one of the most boring PvE experiences ever made. You can evade all mob attacks by circle strafing. sometimes stopping if it’s an AoE. You just spam attack until they die.
I’m not too sure why it’s being labeled as a PvP mode, either: It requires none of the nightmare fuel to even get started in WoW PvP. You choose a starting point, you divebomb in, kill mobs and maybe kill players. It’s not exactly a science to point your abilities towards a player and go ‘pew’.
If we’re saying it’s a PvP mode because you can attack other players then…sure? Sure beats circle strafing a mob until it keels over and victory is achieved.
I find your logic just as amusing, I can assure you. They add incentives all the time to keep players playing. It’s an MMORPG. They kinda have to. Removing them would have an effect. Sure, there would still be people playing Plunderstorm just because they enjoy it, but there would be a noticeable drop in players if they removed one of the main reasons people are there. There are no upsides to removing these rewards. Not a single one.
Pirate ship battles at sea! Yargh!
Naw let them come out with the diss recolor for the non pvpers that talked down on Plunderstorm, yellow?? I was surprised nobody caught that Ijs " yellow bellied…" in Pirate talk context was never complimentary but right after a PvP pirate themed event they put out a yellow recolor for the ppl crying about its unfair they don’t get a pirate set when they choose not to participate in PvP gameplay. I giggle laughing every time I see someone wearing the yellow set, sorry
Really, the closest to a true PvE mode would likely be something like using comp stomp tech/AI to fill out missing slots in the game, in which case a match might be like 1 human vs 29 computer or a due gets a computer player to fill out the team, etc.
Not being allowed to kill other players, but then you already knew that, didn’t you?
Which is funny because bots would also target and chase players at the beginning of a match. Happens in Comp Stomp all the time, it’s easy to bait one off and have it chase you around.
So when people say they want PVE, what they really mean is they want to click boxes and farm raptors.
