I don’t care to have exclusive things. In fact I’ve argued plenty in the past that rare things should absolutely become less exclusive as time/patches/seasons go on. Like I’d be all for legacy raids (raids more than 1 expansion old) have daily lockouts and even some kind of boss drop currency and a vendor allowing one to buy items from their loot table after so many kills.
I do like collecting stuff up to a point. I spent many evenings of my life in genesis mote farm groups with a minimal window and scrolling my mouse wheel AOE macro while I watched things. I never wish that hellacious grind on anyone. What I absolutely despise is PvP. In my 20 years of play, I next to never opt to do it. I’m never down to be someone else’s fun hence why my goal is to collect the quick plunder and then find my way into the storm to die.
This pretty much sums up both Plunderstorm and the expectations of the players Blizz is generally trying to appeal to these days. Gotta keep everything simple or players might feel alienated or think it’s too hard to get into. Oh, and make everything fast!
In my case, that rope is quite short. When I tried PS the first time, I ran several back to back, over several days. I don’t know how many I ran, but it wasn’t 2 or 3, it was several.
I can honestly say that in that whole time, I managed to kill one, maybe 2 players.
I’m not a very kinetic game play. I’m a keyboard turner (WASD) and I use the number pad for my abilities. This is suited me just fine in PvE for decades. But does not work well in PvP, not against some bouncing, janking, spinning other player toon.
I also never developed the knowledge of where to land, where to pick up PvE power ups, etc. Most folks I did encounter were more powerful than me.
I don’t foresee the new PS being really much different from the last. I do know that I did not enjoy very much, much less enough to flail at the grind for the currencies.
And I fully expect that either whatever currency I did get last time, has either been zapped by Blizzard or made worthless for this round, so, back to square 0.
Real talk, it reminds me of Heroes of the Storm for MOBAs. Its simplified, pick up and play, demystifies and removes all the jank. Maybe thats why i like plunderstorm so much!
I think this time around they have a practice mode so you can get the hang of what’s going on before heading into the fray. So that’s a nice addition hopefully.
Ever see a marathon where the really skinny dudes and women win in 30 minutes… and then around the 60 - 90 minute mark a bunch of clowns in party hats come across the finish line and they are laughing it up. Yea well that second group is my friends and I in Plunderstorm. We just hop in discord and have a blast. I really loved last time getting a rank 3 smackerel. What’s not to love when you are wielding killer stinky fish.
My favorite thing about plunderstorm are the people who hate it but play it anyway. It’s like a special form of rare mob that can really accelerate my grind. Go ahead run into that storm without fighting back its free real estate for me.
