I am a believer now in demo for M+, at least based on sims. At ilvl 392 in affliction I sim about 18k dps for 6 min in a M+ while with the exact same gear in demo except modifying azerite traits (2x EP is all I can get right now) I sim the same segment for 27k dps.
I mean if the sim doesn’t lie, that is insane. Worth trying to learn.
But. Initial testing on some practice dummies and I feel stumped. I can’t figure out how a rotation will not leave me starved for soul shards and just trying to spam 1.8 shadow bolts that do 3.2k dmg. Bombers only do a tiny amount of damage also. This is all single target dummy damage but I am only hitting maybe 11k. In affliction I can ramp up to 30k or more single target.
What is a very simple for dummies rotation I can try that will give me decent aoe without having to spam shadowbolts for shards so I can summon more demons? I am just not quite getting it yet.
So say you have 3 shards and are coming into a new M+ pull of 4 elite mobs, a few yards from each other. What is your rotation here?
edit: I think the problem mostly is shard management? As affliction there is always something for me to do, spread corruption and agony, update haunt, all of which cost no shards. UA is the only shard consumer. Maybe I am just bad right now at shard managment for demo or don’t understand the way to efficiently gain them.
Shadowbolt
Soul Strike
Hand of Gul’dan
Bilescourge Bombers
Shadowbolt
Implosion
Then build shards until you can use dogs. The general idea with Demo AoE is to built up to 5 shards, and then depending on whether or not you have 2 stacks of Demonic Core:
With 2 stacks and 5 shards:
HoG
Demonbolt
HoG
Demonbolt
HoG
gcd
gcd
Implosion
Without 2 stacks, but with 5 shards:
HoG
Shadowbolt (or Soul Strike)
HoG
gcd
gcd
In both of the above, “gcd” just means you need to wait for the imps from the last HoG to spawn before you Implosion. So casting shadowbolts, soul strike, etc.
I’d also get used to running Burning Rush. It’s one of the strongest mobility spells in the game, and in the vast majority of cases it’s stronger than Demon Skin and Dark Pact.
I like them after the first HoG because they use up a GCD that you need to wait through anyway (for the imps to spawn).
As for AoE with DeCon, I pretty much play as normal. You still want to get Tyrant out because he does a ton of damage and extending dogs/G:FG is good. Losing the Imps doesn’t feel great, but in the end you’re only losing a single Implosion.
If you have atleast 1 baleful invocation and at least 1 Explosive Potential use the following opening sequence:
Pre-cast Demonbolt
Cast Doom, if talented
Cast Bilescourge Bombers, if talented
Cast Hand of Gul’dan
Soul Strike, if talented
Build to 5 Soul Shards
Implosion
Cast Grimoire: Felguard if talented
Cast Summon Vilefiend, if talented
Cast Call Dreadstalkers
Build to 5 Soul Shards
Cast Hand of Gul’dan
Build to 3 Soul Shards
Cast Hand of Gul’dan
Cast Demonic Strength or Doom (again), if talented, or Shadowbolt
Cast Summon Demonic Tyrant
If you are having issues with the rotation swap steps 6 and 7 for the haste buff before imps despawn.
Regular priority:
Maintain Explosive Potential by casting Implosion with at least 3 Wild Imps out
Cast Summon Demonic Tyrant on cooldown with at least 2 sets of Wild Imps out
Cast Demonic Strength or Bilescourge Bombers on cooldown, if talented
Cast Grimoire: Felguard if talented, on cooldown
Cast Summon Vilefiend on cooldown, if talented
Cast Call Dreadstalkers on cooldown
Cast 3 Soul Shards Hand of Gul’dan whenever possible
Cast Demonbolt or Shadow Bolt to generate Soul Shards
This info is off the onestoplockshop website but i can say for sure that i uave significantly boosted my dps by following this guide. There is also a fantastic weak aura in Kalamazi discord for tracking imps and demonic consumption tyrant buff that has been a lifesaver
Good key note to remember that on practice dummies some things can be extremely skewed, especially when you have a talent or trait that is based on health percentage. Like gain primary stat or haste when target is above x amount of percent. The target dummy never falls below so you get a false number.
I would suggest all around change in build since you have abilities that dont compliment one another. But hey if its fun stick with it
There is currently a bug that allows you to cast tyrant, and then start smashing your implosion key, which will cause you to refresh explosive potential buff AND your tyrant still eats the imps.
