The plot size is simply too small for anything but a small house if you’re using the orc exterior. Medium can barely be moved at all, and Large literally can’t be moved.
I spent the time grinding to housing level 12 and the house unlocked from it is functionally unusable.
Additionally, it reset the location of the house to the dead center of the plot and won’t let me return the house to its previous location, even if I revert it back to Medium and put it where it used to be. The entire exterior is toast.

It is unfortunate.
I feel that the only reason to choose the large house is if you want to decorate the house proper and kind of ignore the lawn. Put a big platform on top or trees or sumptin’ fun.

Think of it as McMansion, Azeroth-style.

I wish the small exteriors were smaller. I just feel like the scale is off compared to my character size; the support beams are 3 or 4 times my body width and the height is enough to fit like 3 stories.
For gameplay reasons most buildings need to be oversized, but when it comes to random NPC homes that are just there for flavor, or even inns, a lot of them are smaller than our exteriors.
With the last content patch they removed a change that people ended up exploiting, me included, of placing a small home into the corner then changing it to medium would stay in that spot. While with a medium it isn’t too much trouble, it was only a bit out of bounds; whereas with a large home structure that could prove to be a problem especially if the area borders another player. So they removed that changed feature, now every time you switch sizes it centers the structure.
Orc large unfortunately borders already exceed the lot boundaries by default and can’t be turned no matter what from my experience.

Huh. I know that we can float our houses, I’ve done it. Has anyone tried to sink it?

Yup you can sink it, you’re just limited by the fact your front door will go underground and stop being clickable at a certain point. I have mine sunken down a fair bit, I think it helps if you’re trying to hide it/build over it, but the diameter is still pretty hard to work around.
I was bumming around in Eastern Plaguelands for housing inspiration and it just struck me how much smaller those houses are than our housing exteriors. Same with the houses in Pandaria (been seeing those a lot lately since I needed about 2k bamboo lumber)
The bigger size probably makes sense considering most players will have a bigger multi-room interior to (kind of) match, but otoh…if we’ve got three sizes of house, the small size could’ve been smaller imo

In the future, any time you want to try out the other sizes, make sure to save a Blueprint of your exterior before you start. This way you can mess around and then import the Exterior Blueprint to get your previous build back.

Does it import the house as well, or just the objects?
This should get at least a bazillion upvotes - just upgraded my house to medium and I am forked… can’t figure out how to get the spire to be open so I can post my little sofa and telescope up there
