…Putting WOW and “E-Sports” in the same sentence. WOW can never or will ever be a real E-Sports game, period. Everyone outside of the WOW community knows this but only in the WOW community do you hear people talk about it like its a skill game… It is not. It is a selection based game.

1: All classes are not equal. Some are support, some are pure deeps, some are useless.
2: No E-Sports ever, ever, ever, ever even remotely taken seriously would include a class like the Rogue, period.
3: The constant nerf, buff rotation to get you to keep playing would never happen in a real E-Sports type game.

WOW’s PVP was decent at one time but never has been about skill. Now its completely destroyed with the insane imbalances between the classes and the fact that the Devs have all but given up on doing anything for it…

Why i get the feeling the same could be said for Overwatch?

Regardless, i never been into E-sports myself, nor particularly care for it, and much rather not have it shoved in my face when i’m doing casual content in retail.

Yeah, well, you know , that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

E-sports for an MMO is such a stupid concept, I don’t even get it.

It’s like trying to make God of War into an RTS, it doesn’t mix. Stop it.

Meh, I only follow Mythic+ Challenges anyhow. There’s something just plain amusing about seeing two teams of five at the exact same place in the exact same dungeon and knowing that it all depends on how one of these will screw up that one little thing on that one pull to fall behind the other catastrophically.

1: I’ll take what is a meta for 500

2: what? No really, I don’t get it.

3: nerfs and buffs happen in every E-sports game; Starcraft, league of legends, Dota 2, etc.

WoW may or may not make for a good esport but these points are not a factor in that.

Also the comments about skill are…interesting lol.

It’s not bailing hay, but at least it does well on Twitch. I guess anything can be considered an “E-Sport” if someone sponsors it, and people are willing to watch it.

LOL, So much this…

Oh boy another “I don’t like esports so you should hate it too :rage:” thread

Can’t wait to read all these nuanced opinions that surely will be thought provoking and new

LMAO, I love E-Sports. reading is hard I see… You are trying to hard…

1 & 2 are common in pretty much all eSports games that aren’t RTS games, and even then can still be common. 2 is just nonsense and doesn’t really make sense, doesn’t seem like you understand a rogues role in PvP or how they operate if you think that, considering other games have champions with similar roles and nobody would debate them being eSports.

Whether it is a popular one, sure, cry about that. Blizzcon finals get like 140k at best, so it’s not great. But nothing you’ve said discounts it from actually being an eSport. Not that there are any rules for what one is anywhere anyway.

Well, one thing is clear, you have NO IDEA about E-sports LMAO!!!

I like the whole “no u” thing, but seriously, your points are garbage. League and dota both make your points 1 & 3 completely irrelevant, unless you’re going to somehow argue the biggest eSports aren’t eSports. You definitely have 0 clue about WoW PvP too which is why you’d say something like your second point. Also, the skill comment in the original post, when you are sitting at 300+ RBGs and never breaking 2k is hilarious.

You just seem clueless in general.

I’ll be the guy who you can all target and hate for this opinion, I don’t give a f***:

WoW has distinct Esport qualities that suck, but WoW in itself is not an Esport. This is why this whole post doesn’t make any sense.

1-Classes are not equal, yet dungeon runs are now timed. They are placed in direct competition with each other to be accepted into groups. That alone is not what makes it an issue. It’s the fact that Blizzard goes as far as to hold competitions for completing these. And we’re talking small scale PvE only. Arenas, aiming for world first, etc. This game has shifted to pure competition opposed to a 2nd life with a little competition as desired.

2-Rogue was a part of the game from the start. To make the statement that rogue would never be part of a game with Esport qualities does not acknowledge that it is no longer the game that it started as.

3-The whole point of the constant nerf/buff rotation is to keep things as balanced as they can. The focus on balance, opposed to fun, should be the Esport hint in itself–not an opposing point.

So no, this isn’t LoL. But it is far more like it than any MMO should be. Relaxing, building a community, slow earned rewards–those are the mmorpg qualities. But…they’re being switched out for competition with one another. Not even limited to opposing factions anymore (which I think was fine).

I wouldn’t doubt they’ll try because it is so promoted on the forums and with social media.

Games like League of legends literally disproves points 1 and 3

I dont even know what you mean by point 2. I assume its about rogues being strong and part of the meta. Well every competitive game has a meta. They will always choose the best choices.

You literally just made my points… LOL

You said WoW cannot be an Esport. I used your points to argue that it is still technically an MMORPG, but every aspect of it is now replicating those of Esports.

Edit: the moment I closed this, top post I see is about not being accepted into groups due to an IO score. This is a whole other topic for debate. But regardless, we’re at a point in WoW where we build up external rankings to compete with each other for group acceptance. Gearscore of the past was flawed…this is on a whole other level though.

(Note: not an argument for or against raider IO)

That is why I hate M+. It is anti MMO in every way. Speed running dungeons doesn’t not belong in a RPG.

The RPG fans that make up the bulk of this game’s player base really don’t like M+. I bet if they got rid of the chest for the +10 no one would even bother running them.

It is a crap system used to extend dungeons, it was a lazy solution pulled right out of Diablo 3.

You don’t see GW2, ESO and FFXIV going E-sport with their mmorpg. Why does WoW have to be the experimental sucker to play those cards. If they want their pvp game to be E-Sport worthy then let it be rated battlegrounds than Arenas. Objectives and fighting is more appealing than just fighting. Class balance is more appealing than imbalance.
