Please stop spam threads

The forums would be much more efficient if they stopped the spam threads. There are a lot of new topics to consider, but they get hidden in the spam. It would be to everyone’s benefit to bring back post limits, and if there were repercussions to necroing old spam threads. I hope Blizzard will consider this.

This is spam too

I disagree. It is a valid concern about the state of the forums.

Dear forum users:

Please be more efficient in your interactions.

Thank you.

Trying to fight Spam Threads is like trying to make a river flow upwards.

It’s possible, but not really worth the effort.

Hot issues will always be in the mind of a lot of people. Not all of them will check if there are other threads to discuss the same issue.

And if the issue is REALLY hot, the intense debate leads to flag spam which leads to auto-locked threads which leads to more threads.

And if Blizzard were to try to crack down on all of that, they would have to employ more CMs to police all threads at all times, which would cost money. And a state of overmoderation could cause players to simply fear posting in the official forums and just abandon ship.

Your idea to fight spam threads is to make a spam thread?

Yeah buddy sure.

And it is Sunday here in Australia. Does this mean also this is a Sunday thread?

Instead of having a topic about this, let’s have a topic about HIGH ELVES.

What are your opinions on high elves?

Do you feel they should be lower? Or higher?

Don’t worry, we’ll know its Sunday when you make volume 3 of your ongoing “blue eyes for blood elves” thread series.

You’re just a little drop of water in a big old sea of water droplets.

To the majority, this is more of a spam thread than any other post out there.

I mean come on, who posts a pointless thread, asking for pointless threads to stop appearing.

That’s like going outside and pooping in the neighbors lawn and then complaining to the HOA because his dog pooped in your yard.

Did you ever think of maybe not being so bothered by words on your screen and investing in a mouse with a scroll wheel? Did you know you can literally just scroll past posts and ignore them? You seriously do not have to participate in EVERY SINGLE POST that pops up. You can actually just only post in threads that interest you.

It’s kind of like going to McDonalds. You don’t have to order every single item on the menu. You can just get your McRib and be done with it. Yea. I bet you’re the type that likes the McRib. It’s the snowflake sandwich. Probably made from mushed up rectal pig parts, but hey, you know what they say, no two pig rectums are alike. So I guess every single sandwich, technically, is special.

making a thread about spam threads only contributes to the problem.

What constitutes a spam topic? Because as far as spreadable lunch meats go, this thread is about the only one that truly fits the bill.

This thread sucks worse than actual spam threads, so instead of letting it go to waste, I’m posting a brownie recipe.

INGREDIENTS
1 pound chocolate chip cookie dough
16 Oreo™ cookies
1 box of your favorite brownie mix

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a baking pan.
Spread cookie dough in an even layer on the bottom. Top with Oreos.
Mix brownie batter according to the directions on the box. Spread it on top of your cookie dough/Oreo monstrosity.
Bake for 40-45 minutes.
I’m supposed to tell you to let it cool in the pan for like 15 minutes, but you’re really hungry so just wait like eight seconds before tearing into it with your bear hands, you savage.

There’s a tiny blue flag right next to a chain and a banner icon… click then report as spam. If you want a real complaint make it how you can’t flag more than a few without getting “locked”.

It’s not spam if it pertains to WoW… unless… its the same exact topic over and over and over by the same people. That distracts from other topics and is against the posting guidelines. If you are going to have guidelines… enforce them.

Limits won’t cease spam. Look at Reddit, it’s much worse on spam on several subs.

What limits it?

Self selection and topic tagging. People know where to go to do certain types of posts, tag it as such, and the readers can filter out things they dislike. I don’t care much for the classic threads or complaints so they’re filtered.

It’d also help if these forums didn’t have some awkward design with the nested reply, being able to post to a forum without visiting (thus duplicates), and metrics that don’t matter and only distract from the topic at hand (last reply, replies, views, users, likes, frequent posters, and other nonsense).
