I know this will get some mixed feedback. You have one side of playerbase that will say “HEY, I’m new and I would love the opportunity to get things that were only available x years ago”. But you also have players that will say “HEY, I’ve been playing this game for years and I’ve worked so hard on collecting, why can’t I get anything new and all these people just starting are getting things for free that took me HOURS…” I understand both views… however I think there is a choice here that blizzard should make that actually effects the health of the game. What’s wrong with having players “miss out” on something? Isn’t this motiviational to make sure they don’t miss out on the next event/cool thing? Isn’t this a GOOD thing for even long term players to keep checking back on the game to make sure they don’t miss out on a new event? I’m sorry you missed out on something 5 years ago, but start playing now and start your collection of cool items today! It’s GOOD to see an old player on an old mount and go “I wish I had that”. I think it’s very DE-motivating to have urgency today, and then just give it out the next. What’s the point Blizz? Examples are releases of recolors of mounts… giving away the feldrake to people that just left their screens running for a few hours when it use to be highly regarded as a rare item… now I see the Tyrael charger when it was a motivational item to have Diablo years ago. Do I bother pre-purchasing your new Diablo now for the perks or just sit it out, wait for it to go on sale, and get given the mount in a year from now when it becomes a Twitch free item? I know, that’s not gauranteed, but that’s how you’re making the game feel and I’m losing interest in the collection of things because it doesn’t feel unique anymore. That’s actually a really important part of your game, an MMORPG…er wait… is it just MMO now? It’s going there… you’re starting to drop off your RPG. Please think about this.
Wall of text, oof
They won’t stop until you have them all.
You’re entitled to your opinion. I and many others, and evidently Blizz feel the other way that after a certain amount of time, it’s fine to let others have the chance to get the mount, toy, mog, or whatever.
Don’t fall for the snake oil salesman pitch from Blizzard and everyone should be happy.
Not reading your wall of text…but I disagree with your title. They should continue to do a mix of old mounts for those that missed them and new mounts.
They won’t do this because people will continue to buy these recolored items on the cash shop and many will still do certain content for that recolor. These items are “special” because Blizz says they are so those who own them feel special too.
Damn, that’s a lot of words.
Too bad, I’m not readin em.
You’re not special kid thx for the mount
Unique limited time items achieve nothing but making other players mad they missed them.
It’s not like a trophy from a competition where you always get the chance next time. These items were just gone and you never had a second chance.
You are if you have the mount Blizz says is special.
No one is buying new stuff… everyone wants the old unobtainable stuff… blizz is smart… like i wouldnt mind having a spectral tiger but then its just gonna be another store mount gonna lose all the rare value,
I think I would agree that new ideas are better for the game in the long run.
it is nice that they’re finally offering a means for earning store mounts by playing the game…but I can see where the TCG/Tyrael’s charger players are over this.
you’d have to put yourself in their shoes though to understand - rarity does matter in this game, whether you like that or not…most players have a handful of “special” items like mounts or xmog…the moment you start handing those out like candy, it does suck if you’re one of the affected players.
that being said, i hope i can get a spectral tiger out of this, since i need it for an xmog idea
it’s not alot and i bet u read it
To be blunt, i think these players need to realize that Blizzard doesn’t actually care if they worked for hours or not, and should just love the thing they got for it’s own merits.
It’s like watching a Playstation fanboy getting upset and angry over Sony porting games to PC, atfer they paid $60-$70 for them, and the PC players get them on sale. And like Blizzard, i have to say, good on Sony for making the right moves there, because spending $500 for a Playstation for one game is kind of pointless.
Sed digredior. (But i digress)
…Ahh yes, the health of this game hinge on people not getting pixels… /s
What’s wrong with players having a re-released mount or item? Their just cosmetic.
It’s more motivational for them to wish this sort of practice dies a well deserved death in video games. But that’s just me.
How is it a good thing to have less choices?..
In your subjective opinion. I don’t think you’re qualified to speak on the health of the game since you’re obviously not a dev… and seemed way more focused on the business side of things, rather then the fun side of things.
Exactly, what was the good reason to make it limited time in the first place since it would be better served as an unlimited time item then?..
So?..
I don’t like going out of my way to get ingame items, and i have no desire to watch or leave a twitch tab open since that tab can be used for literally anything else better, but if some chap wants to get a mount that way for free, i don’t see what’s the actual problem with it then.
…Question, why do you care what other people get anyways?
Why do you expect people to care about your <exaggeration>
Years ` of work on pixels? And why do you think Blizzard should reward you if somebody else got it for free or less effort?
You know what will i will do if the next day, i saw Grove Warden, Garrosh Heirlooms and Flameglaives being given away on Twitch?.. nothing. Because what the hell do i care if somebody else gets them that way? It’s not like job where somebody way less experienced then somebody who is, getting paid more then the experienced person.
…Again, so what?.. You still have those things. …Why do you care?
Are you like one of those angry sorts that you see somebody else having a mount you have, and you whisper them “I bet you got carried, or bought it with illegal gold”, or something silly like that?..
…That’s right, it’s not raiding/dungeons, or the combat system, or the lore that’s a really important part of this game… it’s just some pixels. /s
The RPG part is still around, it’s just this genre as a whole has changed, not just WoW.
They can’t because all the new diversity hires have no talent. Look what the tumblr artists they hired gave you for dracthyr.
I’m kind of on the fence, i want to see these items come back for the players that missed out, i just want to see them come back in a good way, a game play positive way that (wherever possible) is consistent with how the items were originally earned, and not just a stupid bribe to get us to sign up to an outside service or swipe our credit cards.
Respectfully, I disagree. I’d argue it undermines any reason to invest time in the game at all.
I mean, imagine if Blizzard just… deleted everyone’s characters when an expansion came out. But all your new characters start at lvl 70.
MMO’s aren’t JUST about reaching max-level, or wearing the highest-level loot. You spend hundreds, even thousands of hours in the game. Experiencing things. Over time, there are special events, there are things that are added and things that are removed.
“Vanity items”, as they are known, are part of that legacy. They allow players to be able to say “I was there, I did this thing”. They become, in a sense, a “trophy”, or maybe “a T-shirt commemorating an event”.
Imagine your favorite band… they’re going on one last tour. You go to the show, and everyone there gets a cool shirt or something. That shirt is a cool way to remember the show, but also lets others know you were there. It’s not “flaunting it” or “bragging” (I guess some might), but it’s a bit of a status-thing, where someone years down the road who is listening to the band can look at your shirt and go “Dude! I love that band! You got to see their last show?!?”
A lot of people go on how “cool stuff shouldn’t be time-gated”. But here’s the thing; often times, items like these are “cool” BECAUSE they’re not attainable anymore.
Seriously, you think the Feldrake is one of the coolest or unique mounts in the game?
Of course it isn’t.
It’s “cool” BECAUSE it was absurdly rare.
I think it’s crazy that Blizzard is just giving away those “legacy” items. If you didn’t play back then, well we’re happy to have you playing. There should absolutely be plenty of cool new stuff to get. In fact, I’d say that really, there already is. I’d almost argue there’s too much “stuff” in the game, a lot of mounts and recolors these past few expansions are actually very cool in the own, but because they’re common or easily acquired, they lack the “status” of rare or unobtainable mounts.
So it’s really a paradox. In Blizzard making these “cool” mounts attainable again, they cease to be “cool” at all.
If it’s all really so meaningless, Blizzard may as well just setup an officially-sanctioned auction site, and just let players sell their accounts to each other. Seems like they don’t really value the integrity of the game or its player-base anymore.
Perhaps you only put value in things because others do not have it.
A desire to feel superior to others in a social pecking order instead of just using a mount you personally enjoy that has nothing to do with other people.
Food for thought…
