I’ve seen a lot of toxicity this xpac, and Blizzard is partly to blame for not doing a better job of onboarding players into their myriad of systems, tanking s4, or seperating very high ilvl players from very low ilvl players in BGs.
BUT, the community in this game just seems to be completely out of control. It’s become a weekly or daily occurrence that people are shouting, reporting, or otherwise making the lives of people who are just trying to play the game miserable.
A far less toxic approach, when you see someone who you feel shouldn’t be doing the content you see them failing at, is to whisper them, and offer to help them out. Help them get gear. Explain the systems. Link them to addons.
And be patient. WoW will never be accessible to new players if the people who play it can’t be empathetic to the plight who haven’t been here for 15 years.
Remember, it’s just a game.

Maybe people just want you to stop asking for the mage tower cosmetics to return.

The community will continue to get worse since we face no punishment for our actions. Things went downhill with the killing of server communities. If you want a game with some good communities then this one isn’t it anymore.

Yeah, the fake altruism isn’t doing them any favors.

I’m going to attibute some of the acidic people I’ve been running into from the “Corona Crazy” of being on lockdown. The rest just need to beg their doctor for meds because I’m honestly about to just stick to questing over dungeon running for any future alts. I actually got screamed at and Vote kicked on my rogue in wailing caverns because I “stole his flower”. He was also raging because how dare I take .5 seconds to grab a quest item as the tank races nascar style.

honestly i never pick up quest anymore in dungeons
There are plenty of good communities. Unlike server communities, you have to find them, you aren’t just thrust into them whether you like it or not.

Somehow Blizzard has managed to make every piece of content in the game feel like a time crunch. It’s as though m+ has infected the whole game.

Nasuuna,
First off, Thank you for this post… Well, said… The idea I have seen from some that it will continue unless blizz places punishment in place, is just wrong. Ghandi once said be the change we want to see in the world… There will always be those who are, for lack of a better word jerks… But, how we respond to others and how we choose to play our game is upto us. We can be that change an possibly an example for others that might effect change in the game.
I would say if we see this injustice happening we can step in… Stand up and take the player under our wing. It might bring a whole new aspect to the game that more experienced players have been lacking … as a mentor/teacher.
Again thank you for your post… Stay strong…

Oh absolutely, mythics created this “If i go fast enough in this ancient dungeon I’ll win a treasure in my head” lol. As for other aspects of wow BfA has been very lacking unless you’re a number cruncher. Azerite traits were an interesting concept but when they added essences and then corruption it went from “this piece is better” to “This piece is better but only if I also find matching corruption”. So far from what I’ve seen of Alpha SL footage Blizzard SEEMS to be learning, let’s hope it’s as true on launch as it is now.
Yep. I say this all the time in the game to new players. There’s just going to be jerks. When people leave my m+ group due to rage, that’s just the game. But I think a lot of people could do with being reminded that they’ve been playing this game a long time and not to take things so seriously.
A lot of the people who are coming back right now are just going to get scared off by bad experiences.
I suppose our definition of community differs. Part of my definition is seeing familiar faces around and having meaningful interactions with consequences in the world, not endless spam of npc-like players that I’ll never see again from other servers.
Blizzard needs to stick with one system, and just expand it rather than add a system per patch. It just got way too out of control and it makes it almost impossible for a player to start playing late in the xpac without reading a ton of wowhead manuals to just get the gist of what they need to be working towards.
Imagine coming into this game as a fresh 120 and trying to figure out where to go next or how to get into raiding with no essences, no traits, and no corruption/cloak let alone how to get gear.

I’m pretty sure most people are more annoyed by people basically autoattacking in LFR. Trying is one thing but expecting to be carried just because it isn’t Mythic isn’t excusable.
I’ve also found most people lately to be fairly patient with tanks because they don’t want to wait 20-30 minutes for another one, or they just leave quietly.

Imagine fresh? I don’t need to even now I shake my head at needing to sim gear just to see “Oh wow that looks better but the sim says it’s a massive downgrade” lol. The sooner we get some hard data on covenant abilities and how they’ll scale the sooner I can either relax or rouse the rabble for pitchfork and tarring.
Eh to be fair LFR has always been a cluster eff, I like it because back in the day it gave me cool tier bonuses to make transmog farming easier.
Well…cross realm kinda increased the toxicity.

I play this game like it’s my job and I still have to go ask the disc math wizard’s to help me pick gear because you can’t sim healing… I mean when you need an excel spreadsheet and every question people ask in the channel is “which piece is better, this 415 ilvl with +75 corruption or this 475” or “what are the essences for X” something is wrong.
The worst word of the past decade is “toxic.”
Anyways, should people give others a hard time for being new or returning? NO.
Should a developer police their game to shield your feelings? Also NO.
