It’s really awful to see so many new players getting shoved into these servers that have basically no population. I hate having to explain to a new player why the vast majority of the people they are interacting with are not people they can join a guild with, or aren’t even on their server.
Let these tiny realms wither and die and start sending the new players to the big servers. Nothing is more cool than walking around Org and SW and seeing people everywhere, vs the case on most of these servers which is more akin to a ghost town.

How?
What do you think would happen if Blizz flagged Illidan, Stormrage, Tich, and Area52 as “New Player” realms?

Well, it could work if they put the big servers on their own dedicated server hardware like in the old days (which I think is a good idea regardless) but with the current AWS shard thing they have going it’s a recipe for disaster.
right? it’s basically
“How to make your new player experience awful, a lesson, by Blizzard”

They could do more server merges and shut down the really low pop servers.
How many new players are there that there needs to be 13 “New Player” servers and 75ish low pop servers?
Is there a need to have “linked” servers still, like Blackhand and Galakrond - this was done to alleviate the crowding problem on Blackhand when it was a more popular server than it is now.
Keep some of the low pop servers for those that like them and merge the rest to create at least medium or high population.

They really need to cut at least 50% of the servers and just smash players together.
So many servers are completely dead and empty.

This happens on every server now.
Dalaran was a new player server when I started, one of 3. I have characters there still. It’s booming now. From what I hear it went from a Horde majority server during Cata to an Alliance dominated one now.
There shouldn’t be a lot of new player servers. The game isn’t getting a lot of new players now.

Not on Sargeras, everyone I see in the cities are from Sargeras .
Only a few servers are so large you only see players from that server. Zul’jin you will see characters from many servers and even different regions at all times in Orgrimmar. Same with Tich and Area 52.
But I would bet those people are in groups with folks from Zul’jin, Tich, or Area-52
They’re dead because this game hardly gets new players, due to outdated design, and a terrible community.

This is patently false. Newcomer chat is crammed with people who have never played WoW before. I want the game to do a better job of directing them to a better server experience.

You would lose that bet. The only server I play on where Stormwind is single realm is Moonguard. And even in Boralus there are a fair number of other RP servers crz’d in.
Are you seriously trying to tell me that lots of characters on Zul’jin, Tich, and Area 52 group with characters from LA and BR realms to play?
I don’t know about leveling zones and old-hubs. I don’t really care frankly about those. What I do care about is providing players with a good experience. Even if I grant you that some zones, regardless of server are CRZ’d, it won’t solve the major issue that is present in low pop servers. Few solid guilds to join and completely borked economies are also bad for new players as well.

This will never happen. Blizzard is too proud.
I have characters on two new player servers… Thunderlord and Destromath… they be busy servers so far as I can see, lots of players running all over the place.
don’t know when you are looking at these realms but the two I’m on are busy places .

Server transfers have more to do with it than any of that. The second blizzard removed the super heavy restrictions from xfers is when the lower pop realms were doomed to die.
My og realm Dragonblight basically got vaporized in cata and anyone who wanted to be competitive in raid was forced to xfer or start over on a higher pop realm. I said goodbye to the realm sometime in mid MoP when I could not find a good raiding guild for the life of me.

Why haven’t we gotten more server merges? And just rename them to one big server

No one gets shoved into them . They recomend them for new players but it is up to the player to decide if they want to go to a server where others lack experience like them or go to one with a more vast population and resources.
The cross realm zone and server merging is so inconsistent. There was somebody asking in trade to have something made from a couple expansions ago. I could do it, so I messaged them, we met up, and they tried to give me the materials to make it. But they couldn’t because some reason? I dunno, maybe they were only CRZ visiting and not permanently merged?
But we were both there, in Stormwind, could talk and whisper and everything, but not trade materials/items.
The last time I played Dark Age of Camelot, before they completely folded, all of the servers were merged in the Capitol Cities, so they were fairly busy. When you went out into the wilds they were still separate instances. But you could group with anybody from any server.
