Why do I have this program running in the background even when I’m not playing or planning on playing one of your games ? I keep getting Windows User Account Control asking -
Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device ? - and I keep saying no but then it pops up constantly during the worst times asking over and over to launch the AgentHelper.exe
I keep a pretty close watch on what apps launch when I start my system so that if I say yes it launches the AgentHelper every time I start my system.
Are you spying on us or what ? Why should this exe run in the backgound all the time even when I’m not playing ?
Saying no to it seems to have zero effect on the game other than getting spammed over and over asking for permission during the worst times - boss fights, dragon races etc
What is this AgentHelper even doing other than spying on me ?
Is there any legit reason this needs to launch every time I turn my system on ?
Is it some telemetry data gathering tool that you use to track and sell my data ?
I have never seen any program or app that’s so persistent on being in my startup folder.
Is there any way to make it stop ?
That app is part of the launcher. It helps make sure that the app and its components remain updated.
Also the appropriate place to pay this is in tech support. This guys are super smart in the technical aspects of the game and computers.
I’ve done nothing special, and just exited out of WoW and the launcher. That process is no longer running on my computer.
Could you have some kind of nasty on your computer masquerading as agenthelper.exe?
I’m sorry but that is not true. My launcher and its components are updated every time I launch it.
Why does AgentHelper need to run when I turn my system on to watch netflix or something and haven’t played the game in days ?
When I click the “launcher app” it gets updates regardless of whether or not the AgentHelper is running.
I’ve never had an issue with updates, the launcher and game have always stayed updated without it constantly running in the background.
To be totally honest it really feels like spyware.
Why does AgentHelper need to run when I’m not playing ?
dumb question but do you have in your options ticked for the launcher to keep running in the background?
No, I’m a security expert and run a super clean home system.
If I say yes to the WUAC it launches at every reboot or clean startup.
Sounds like you have the application set to constantly update every 5 minutes or something, make sure it’s set to not check every time the system restarts. However it should really only be set to check once a day or something for updates.
Nope, I don’t have any option ticked to keep the launcher running in the background and I don’t have it set to constantly update…
And this isn’t a “Tech Support” issue - it’s a customer that doesn’t want a .exe in my startup folder, a decision made by someone at Blizzard.
Which is not what this forum is for. It doesn’t mean “I’m a customer, support me” as much as people sometimes hope.
Technical Support deals with anything from software to hardware, which is what this would fall under. Desktop App Feedback would probably be more accurate, but you’ll still find people over in Tech Support more knowledgeable about something like this.
Customer Support primarily only helps with issues that revolve around our accounts.
This is a player help player section of the forum. No one here can do anything about it. This is not even an issue a GM or SFA can deal with, and frankly it has been a thing since the launcher first started existing. Blizzard is not likely to ever change using it. If you want to talk about this issue, do as Ekon suggested and take it to the Tech Support forum.
Awesome ! How do I get this moved to Desktop App Feedback ?
Or should I just repost this whole thing there ?
(I moved this post from customer to technical and came back to edit this) Unless you do what I suggest below I fully expect to get zero feedback or help. Do what I suggest below and see for yourself - the launcher and game update fine without AgentHelper.exe running in the background.
I know you can move around within distinct game forums, but I’m not sure about moving around through major headers like different games and platforms.
Clicking the pencil icon at the bottom of your OP will give you the option to move your post and should give you the options within.
I usually don’t endorse Microsoft but you can get a handy tool from the official MS website called “autoruns” - it’s great for seeing what actually is running on startup.
If you get this MS tool and run it you’ll see battlenet_helpersvc has a check next to it, uncheck it and see what happens.
The “helper service” is AgentHelper.exe which you can see on startup in your Task Manager.
