What is the purpose of the prepatch anyway? There are already alpha and beta testing periods, so the prepatch is not only unnecessary but it completely deflates the excitement of the new expansion. Thanks to youtubers we already practically know what we’re supposed to do, what classes to play, covenants to pick, etc… Just wait until all testing is done, then just release the full expansion.
If there’s no mount, there is no purpose to me. But what good would skipping prepatch do now?
It’s for leveling and gearing up alts, which a lot of people including myself are looking forward too.
Pretty much this. I’m looking forward to leveling an army of alts to 50 quickly.
Purpose of prepatch is help transition everyone into the expansion by giving them time to try out spells and update addons.
To maybe give you a chance to adjust to how bad your class plays with the incoming changes?
Unironically, I would like a longer bfa and also all the issues people are having for certain classes be ironed out at launch and not on 9.1. I’m playing the game right now as well.
People are drooling over about 2-3 days worth of content and are only wanting pre-patch for cosmetics. While just flat out doing next to nothing right now. For people that have pushing all expansion long, yeah y’all earned y’alls rest but for others that aren’t, they are falling for the “baby out with the bathwater” and upcoming honeymoon phase.
The period before raid launch facilitates learning your spec. Really, why worry about itemization and how your class flows during pre-patch and before 60 when you are going to be spending the majority of your time at 60?
You are not doing a proper test drive without all the right tools. The time period before raid/season/m+ launch is the time to learn all of that.
Pre-patch is for leveling alts, getting ready for the expansion, and having an event to lead us into the story.
The people that make guides on the internet already know everything from the beta test anyway. If you feel that knowing that going in ruins the excitement, you can just not read/watch them.
People just fully admit that they can’t think for themselves these days. Amazing.
Pre-patch is like softly smacking someone in the face before actually smacking them.
Getting them ready for whats to come ya kno.
Prepatch is telling people how little work has been done once the expansion officially releases.
I’m extremely concerned by them "beta testing/ptr"ing everything, to a point where everyone knows everything months before content is out.
things like covenants make no sense if they get “tested” if their whole point is to let players edge out advantage over one another through clever use of these covenants. People will obviously minmax them before they are out, and we “skip” the creative part altogether, and are left with just exploiting them.
I’m genuinely afraid of the game being “solved” on arrival. Granted most people are sheep and won’t be able to properly exploit them, while others will surprise people with using things considered “bad”, but the overall impression of the community will be that the game is “solved” whether or not it actually was.
According to general discussion, the pre patch has been nerfed of all fun. I think that’s ridiculous and can’t wait to start leveling and experiencing all the new class changes. The whole purpose of the pre-patch is to get you accustomed to the new changes in preparation for Shadowlands silly!
Uhh and yet you picked the game (classic) that in the past 10 years, had the most tinkering to figure out how everything works.
Stuff needs to be tested otherwise the classes that catch the devs eyes less (like monk for starters and they have a lot of bugs for several years) just get thrown in the dumpster for the usual bread and butter classes.
I’m worried it will happen anyway, except the “fun part” will be skipped.
As for classic, I play it differently than most, so I don’t really care. Most of my server is on my ignore list anyway.
Testing is necessary to keep them honest or else they would do a bunch of stealth nerfs like mount equipment requiring level 40.
Valid point. This isn’t really the case for me though. Most specs didn’t dramatically change.
Prepatch is only going to be fun for people who want to level up an alt army. They are nerfing gold farms across the board and the gear from the event isnt even good so if you expecting to have fun but no interest in alt leveling then your going to be disappointed.
I’m working on leveling alts to 120, then loading them up with Benthic gear. That leaves them weak in weapons / shields / offhands, rings, and trinkets, so I’m going into the pre-patch around 340.
Yeah, without the new 100 gear in the pre-patch, my alts would be toast in SL.
Why would I do hours and hours of testing and simming when someone else already did it?
