Given their record of picking dungeon that player hate/dislike… I would say I kind of expected this… wow dev / management at this point is just making a point of taking all the fun out of their own game, kind of impressive (the wrong way) if you think about it.
ToP is not bad as Spires, Spires is a bottom 5 of all time but Theatre of Pain is really bad. If you think ToP is fine, that means you didn’t do higher key enough to see why it’s so terrible. The PVP boss scale horrifically and it completely ruins the dungeon. ToP is 5 bosses and a lot of minibosses, it’s 38 minutes dungeons which is too long.
It def could have been worse…but Theatre of Pain is going to break people, and classes will def be cherry picked for that one. (Druids do well in there, so it’s all good)
I think it’s funny the devs are probably trolling us, but hopefully we get to re-visit some old ones the community loved.
I liked Tazavesh, Karazhan (lower) and UD Strath…(do it blizz - with a new rare rivendare’s and sword plz)
At least it was Shrine of the Storm or Tol Dagor. There are some serious stinkers out there (not that TOP isn’t a stinker), so even after this season we still might get meh picks.
While I can’t speak to the dungeons that have never been in M+ before, I am looking forwards to Mechagon and ToP. I enjoyed them when they were first added in.
great question, and i agree, it’ll be different for everyone.
For me, I just think it has to pass a certain vibe check…don’t really care if it’s easy or hard, but if the boss fights are interesting/unique, the trash fees fun to engage with (you get to use cd’s, big damage numbers, etc.), and it feels “comfortable” with checkpoints, the timer, etc. - I would like to be there doin those over and over.
I also agree with Yrrdemonic that there were some dungeons (modern and old) that were just universally loved by the community (via various metrics like positive feedback, the number of keys done, the rewards in there, multiple people asking for them to add it, etc.) - but the devs seem to not be adding them lately whatever reason?
ToP is a good dungeon - but def not a m+ community favorite, and i think it’ll burn a lot of people out, because it’s long and punishing, and i’m not really sure that’s what everyone wants. Important to read the room a bit as a game designer you know?
But like i said, if they are aware, and just clowning on us, then that’s funny and i welcome stuff like that, because they’re interacting with the community at least.
I think you’re mostly right about that, but i think you’re too fixated on “difficulty” being the only metric that makes something “loved” by the community - or not. My favorite dungeon in BfA was Shrine of the Storm, but you won’t see me white knighting for that to be in the rotation any time soon.
I also don’t think that statement is always, true, because there are some examples of remakes that were not liked - at all - but were some of the easier ones in their rotations. (Shadowmoon Burial grounds and Grimrail Depot are two of them for sure).
I don’t think it’s that deep to be honest, and most people probably do feel the way Yrrdemonic, does…kind of weird that you just dismiss every other metric we are talking about, but you know what? it’s a great day and it’s cool.
To an extent. Priory and Cinderbrew have some of the most dangerous chain abilities that build upon each other I seen and not all of them are interruptible. Thrash will make or break these dungeons.
The only one that will likely be the “easy” TWW in Season 2 is the rookery and even then it will likely not be that easy
