I was pleased to be able to use this new Arachnophobia Mode as one of the few that really struggle when it comes to spiders in real life or in fantasy. But to my disappointment, this setting doesn’t have any use in the game’s cutscenes and cinematics.
I wasn’t aware of this fact going into Azj-Kahet and the cutscenes in this zone really did give me quite the shock and trigger my arachnid anxieties. I ended up having to skip all the cutscenes after a few seconds, and skipping cutscenes is something I don’t do at all in WoW.
It would be nice if you could remake all of the Azj-Kahet cinematics with this mode in mind please, so those like me don’t feel forced to skip anything and miss out on this expansion’s fantastic narrative and story.

Not to make light of the phobia, but the setting creates from pretty funny scenes at times. Any nerubian that’s suspended from silk looks pretty silly when it turns into a makrura.

Yeah, it’s quite amusing I suppose. But it helps a lot.
I’ve always thought it was weird that they chose crabs/crustaceans of all things to replace the arachnids with. Like obviously it was due to model similarities, but crustaceans don’t seem far enough removed for me.
I play another game that has a similar setting, and you’ll never guess what arachnids get replaced with when it’s enabled: Bears. Which probably sounds crazy, but it serves the purpose of replacing them with something that’s in no way at all similar to what arachnids look like.

Well would what you have replaced them with?

Why is arachnophobia the only phobia being catered to? What about acrophobia - just make everything on the ground. Give us really fast ground mounts. Smooth everything out so you don’t bump into too much when going so fast. Then there’s tachophobia which can be addressed at the same time by turning that speed down to just walking speed. But we need more than that. Demons feature prominently in a lot of content. Those with demonophobia would appreciate an option to turn that off as well. I don’t even want to think of some of the other phobias and how they’d be addressed.
Basically, just appease everyone so that no one has to confront their irrational fears. Give us the default Unreal level and everything a capsule shape. That is, unless there’s a phobia about that as well.

The fact like none of them are spiders makes the whole thing an odd filter

I don’t know my little Gnome friend, but I find those crabs more creepy than spiders! they sure look more menacing with those huge claws and chitin armor lol

I think the crabs use the same skeletal models.

It would honestly be cool if someone made an addon that let’s you change the arachnophobia enemy models. Turn the spiders into whatever you want.
Friend: Why are the enemies a bunch of cheese wheels?
Me: Don’t ask.

Plenty of spider people in Northrend and I don’t remember people losing their minds over cartoon creatures back in Wrath. What the heck changed between then and now?
