I really want to play classic wow. however i don’t want all my work and effort to disappear in a year.
Please release a classic +. I know it will be successful just look at OSRS.
classic era is already out bro ![]()
a fresh classic era server might be fun tho
classic era. meaning itll be gone in a year ?
Era servers are permanently vanilla.
Era has been around since 2019. It’s not going away. If not having your progress invalidated is very important to you then Era is the place.
What do you mean by this? Like you want an Era, but you want it to be Classic+? Is this like a re-release of SoD? Does SoD currently provide what you want?
The Classic Era servers are indefinitely up, so that may also satisfy what you’re asking for?

I meant like an OSRS type server.
Classic server that gets updates and continues to progress. New bosses new raids introducing arena etc but all in the classic playstyle.
Having an armory, etc.etc.
Edit: Also thank you for the clarification on classic era.
Oh okay. I don’t know what that means, but cool.
I see, so like Retail, but not Retail, Classic? Word is that something may be coming in 2027… not sure how credible.
I think that may be your best bet for now. There’s also Anniversary realms, but they are in late stage progression, and will be moving to TBC at some point, maybe soon.

well that’s the dream ain’t it
but we have no reason to expect this is coming. and if it is coming, it will most likely come with a lot of awful retail changes that make it a dubious proposition at best
for now and for the foreseeable future, classic era is the best we got.
If you can find even just 2 people who agree on what changes for Classic+ are good, I’ll be surprised.
But yeah, it’s a mixed bag. For me, while I like the idea of Classic+ with new content in the vein of Vanilla, I don’t like the idea of making changes to classes or adding new classes. Having said that though, I enjoyed a lot of SoD, and so I think I could accept a lot of changes given the right framing. If it’s called Classic+ and it doesn’t meet my ideal expectations, I may be disappointed.

Even the actual competitive arena players say not to put arena in classic+
The only people who want arenas, unironically are people who don’t even do arenas
Imagine playing arenas as vanilla classes
Blizzard doesn’t know how to engage people outside of a vertical progression cycle because they are only good at designing instanced group content, that’s pretty much why the standard patch cadence hasn’t really changed fundamentally in 20 years
I wouldn’t bet on it being successful, whatever you’re using to measure that (I assume sustainable long term growth like osrs)
what’s wrong with vanilla classes doing arena
are they not balanced to do well in teams?
Well first of all, vanilla DRs would have to be changed entirely, which is basically changing the way classes work by default because of it. Which affects things like duels, which would affect mak gorahs and other similar things.
Second of all, you won’t even have a viable toolkit that are built for these types of 2/3 man engagements like wrath and later xpacs are designed for
What are you gonna do? Run warrior Druid 2s with no cyclone?
You have to change ALOT more than just classes for arenas. Trinkets, systematic functionalities like DRs and the way individual abilities are designed. You have to add resilience or some form of it…. It’s too much just for a mode nobody would take seriously anyways
special arena rules could be made to decrease the duration of CCs etc
but point taken, it’s not a big deal for me
You could definitely develop arena-specific changes that do not impact world pvp, bgs, duels, etc.
And you could add in arena specific talents.
But yeah, I’m not saying that the development time/effort/resources that would be required to develop this would be worthwhile.

Immersion breaking.
I want all of my spells and class functions to be the same across the board no matter where I’m at.
I don’t want “this” ability to do this in a bg but does this in open world, and “this” in arena.
Polymorph 30 seconds in the world and 9 sec in arena
but again, we don’t even know how they are designing the classes. Will it be vanilla classes with some custom stuff, will it be tbc or wrsth? Etc
All of this matters a lot
I simply don’t see the effort worth it. Barely anyone even does them in modern classic now. If it wasn’t for points capping for an 1800 weapon there would be like 200 total pop playing lol
it’s not really immersion breaking, it makes sense for a fighting arena organization to have specific rules about things
just like in real life, certain moves aren’t allowed, etc.
Well now you’re gonna have to implement resilience, which is a PvP stat, which means it is now a requirement/barrier to entry to even progress. I’m all for them implementing a sort of “competitive” side of PvP, so long as they do not have to fundamentally restructure the game to do so
Is it?
I want a lot of things too, but… just saying “Immersion breaking” doesn’t mean I should get them.
Perhaps some powerful mage is casting some spell over the area that creates rules. How immersive.
Again, I’m not saying they should develop this, though personally I think I might enjoy it, arenas exist in Retail, and I can always just play that. And even though it would likely be a fun project, I think it would be difficult to justify the resources required, unless they had reason to believe it could be spun out into its own game.
