Please read if you are having fun playing classic wow

I’ve noticed the forums and reddit are overwhelmingly negative about classic, so I wanted to post my thoughts and feelings on my classic wow experience.

I for one have been having a total blast playing classic. I have met some really cool and interesting people on my server that I interact with daily. I’ve found the ease of use of discord has made it easier than ever to immerse into the game and connect with people you’re playing with in a way you couldn’t in vanilla, and that experience has been really cool.
I love waking up and checking the YouTube channels I follow for new videos as people divulge their “secret” grind spots and tips on making gold.
I love being able to use twitch on my phone to watch one of my fav channels while simultaneously questing in the same zone. (thank you MadSeasonShow)
I’m digging all of the podcast and recent interviews with game devs (the countdown to classic interview with Mark Jacobs is top of that list.) and the content creators uploading hilarious leveling journey videos. (Looking at you uberDanger)

I know there are tons of people having a similar experiences, so I wanted to hear from other players having positive and fun / unique experiences on classic.
I am genuinely so grateful that a game I spent so much time playing and enjoying when I was an awkward teenager has been re-released.
So, if you are having a blast, have a funny story, or a cool classic podcast or video series to share, please sound off here and let’s change the vibe of the forums a bit!

The complaining will always be there. Outrage brings out a lot more action in people in forums like this.

I think 90% of the outrage ive seen about this game falls into one main problem- blizzard/nochanges crowd not understanding that keeping the spirit of vanilla alive is more important than keeping the game identical to 15 years ago.

Blizz has made so many dumb moves that have chanhed the experience, like huge servers, and then expect things to be ok without any action to balance that.

Modern gamer mentality may ruin classic, but blizzard only has interest in keeping up the vanilla spirit if it requires no additional work. Compare this to the devs of osrs for a company that actually cares.

To contribute to what you wanted though- had an awesome time leveling and getting geared, still get stoked for raids, and wsg has been the meaningful pvp ive wanted. Im happy youre enjoying your experience. I Still love the game, i just expect blizzard to keep the spirit of vanilla alive rather than their exact code from 15 years ago. It baffles me that they think players want 200 ms spell batching, for example, because its “authentic.” Theyre out of touch.

I’m ecstatic to visit old Azeroth before Deathwing destroyed it. The Barrens is not literally split in half, where you have to migrate to the outskirts of the Barrens, just to reach the other side. In Classic, all you gotta do is walk over a bridge and low and behold, there’s Mankrik’s wife! Thousand Needles is not flooded anymore. Screw Water levels! I always skip them.

What’s up with Video Games having Water Levels, anyway? Auberdine is back, along with the infamous Menethil Run that I’ve been jogging back and forth. The Mobs haven’t hurt me, too much. Highest death count doing the run is only two deaths. I’m, also, enjoying making up my own Talent Tree spec.

No, I’m not following a Talent Tree Spec Guide. I want to build my own crazy spec to bring back the Support role. The Classic WoW Talent Tree Calculator has been my new favorite mini-game, on the side. You won’t believe how many combinations I’ve come up with :cocktail:

If it makes you feel any better, Vanilla was like this too. If you judged by the forums the game is terrible, everybody is mad, and the community is toxic. Then you actually play the game and meet people on your server and it seems to be 100% the opposite.

There are tons and tons of really cool people having fun and enjoying the hell out of the game. We can all go ahead and be one of them!

Some serious selection bias in these kinds of places.

Just like any forum in life, those with complaints speak the loudest.

I am having an absolute blast in classic. It’s interesting the flashbacks I get to vanilla when doing certain things in Classic that i had forgotten about.

Loving old school WSG. Kinda bummed about this version of AV, but honestly I dont have time for the old school AV anymore- family and career have taken priority.

Loving old world dungeons and zones.

Love the simplicity of the classic WoW universe.

Nothing against those who still enjoy retail, but i haven’t touched BFA since classic launched, beyond grabbing the anniversary pet.

Havent logged as many hours in a game since probably WotLK. Its really hurting my sleep lol.

No classic isnt perfect and its definitely not identical to vanilla, but its close enough for me that it gives me that same thrill i had 15 years ago.

Im enjoying professions and classes I never played before. Also new races and zones which makes it feel like a totally new game. I like to explore and experience everything so I take my time. Im treating the game like a novel rather than an instruction manual I have to read and complete as fast as possible.

Here here! I am also having a blast - shout out to Minkrik and Incendius, i have met a lot of great people.

Countdown to Classic podcast has been an awesome way to stay in touch with the bigger picture and get multiple perspectives.

A word of advice: going slowly and experiencing the game holistically is awesome. read the quests, do every dungeon, choose to do zones that are interesting to you (no need to do barrens on each character).

Having a good time in Classic.

Before Classic started, i was sure i would not play much, and now I’m not playing retail at all. Not even doing the Bee mount anymore; im still at 15% into Revered or so and have been there for at least weeks.

All of the little time-consuming parts of Classic add flavor (for me) to the game. Ammo, soul shards, pet skills (I got Broken Tooth at level 37!), weapon skills, talent trees, inventory space, lack of gold, and many other things… they just add flavor to the game.

WPvP is waaaaay better (well, the BGs have now nerfed that quite a bit, oh well).

I’m really enjoying completing things more, even doing grey quests to finish a zone if necessary. I usually did not do that in Vanilla.

Every single one of my guys is fishing in Classic. Crazy, and cool.

Things are good, with the main caveat that i need to make sure I have the time needed before starting an instance, for example.

With Retail, you could pretty much do anything in 30 minutes.

Not so, in Classic. Which is mostly good, and sometimes a bummer.

Hmmm…I wonder what the connection is…

I’m having a blast showing some friends of mine around, who are having their first experience w/WoW ever. Now, instead of being the noob, I can show noobs around, and pay forward the kindness that had been shown to me in the past. It brings back some of what made the game great to begin with. We’re having a blast revisiting all the content.

I like Classic so much, that I play retail again sometimes. Maybe the conspiracy is real!
(My kid likes it better, and he first decided to try Classic after watching me play, and some of those YT vids)

Ive been posting here, and playing Classic nonstop so proof is in the pudding for me.

Thank you OP for the topic!

I’m having fun playing classic. I’m playing a class I’m super uncomfortable with (druids). Slowly I’m getting adjusted and im finding the perfect macros and playstyle for me. Ive also started tanking on my bear and have tanked a few bosses on MC.

While I am having a ton of fun, this is not it at all…

Blizzard made some bad choices, and that’s kinda lead us down a bad path.

My personal complaint has less to do with the content that other’s complain about and everything to do with the game not running as “Vanilla” as it should…

Artificial Batching and Leeway are dumb. Yes I know Leeway is authentic, but it’s a system that was intended to be 100% invisible to the player, not something that’s comically busted… (Leeway appears to be fixed in BG’s so that’s a win I guess)

As for the artificial batching; this is still problematic and is causing all kinds of class related issues.

As for the “No changes” the only problem I had with them was the literalist idiots who think that if its 1.12 it needs to be straight up 1.12, and it does not get any dumber than that IMO because Vanilla was a lot bigger and expansive than just 1.12… While 1.12 classes can work, it comes at a cost, and unfortunately Blizzard did not want to pay for re-tuning the raids and all the world / dungeons to make up for the 1.12 classes being vastly more powerful.
