Lightning bolt and chain lightning and the iconic elemental shaman spells, the animations for these spells have been updated several times through the years. They were last updated in legion patch 7.3. The animation did make it into the game but due to player feedback at the time was not implemented.
I believe that it is now time for these to be brought in. Most shaman NPCs already use the new lightning bolt animation. In my opinion they look amazing and give you a feel that you are actually casting a powerful spell. At the moment it just feels like you are zapping the target like a bug zapper.
Elemental shaman should feel like you are calling upon the destructive powers of nature and I believe that the animation that is already in the game would allow us to feel this way.

I have seen so many npc’s using incredible lightning animations ranging from the shaman in darkshore to the sethrak snakes and their totems, the fact that none of these are even glyphable options is abhorrent

Totally agree. It feels like the focus in SL is being put too much on lava burst. I didn’t roll an ele sham to be a fire mage.
Its def due for a bit of an upgrade

shaman players been waiting since last patch of legion for an update and blizzard has let us all down even baiting us with darkshore shaman animations and still no update even in .1 of shadowlands… pathetic

The current spells effects for all the Shaman spells are so lackluster, it doesn’t feel fun to play the class, everything looks like a static .jpg image.
Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, Lava Burst, Icefury, Frost Shock, Flame Shock, all of these need DESPERATELY to get a visual update, PLEASE.
Many times I’ve dropped the game and went on a break for a few weeks because Shamans have almost no visual or sound feedback on their spells, most of the times it doesn’t feel like I’m even casting anything.
Look at all the other casters for example, Warlock, Mage, Priest, Druid, they all have amazingly beautiful spells and then you look at Shaman and… They have cardboard effects for their magic?
Give us lightning that actual feels like lightning, have it zig-zag towards the enemy, give us a lava burst that feels impactful and big, give us frost/flame shocks that have actual effects on the targets, have they be set on fire or have ice on their feet, give us an icefury that actually looks like a long ice spear.
I can’t stand playing a class with no visual feedback any longer.

Yes, lightning is more of a spark.
I also miss the old chain heal graphic. Not that it’s worth casting much…
I agree, They need to update lightning bolt, even just having it as a glyph, It’s sometimes sad when you see other npcs being able to use the new 7.3 lightning bolt or even the cataclysm lightning bolt, but you’re stuck with the paper lightning that was given to us in the beginning of legion.
