I love the idea of season of discovery being blind. However, the longer it takes to view what the new runes are, the less time we could be leveling that new alt that we are excited to play. Not everyone has time to level all classes, and the runes can really define the excitement for players going in.
Example: My buddy is normally a rogue/lock main. He hasn’t even leveled one yet because he was so excited for the wild strikes on feral and healing on mage. It can completely change what character you want to prep for phase 2. It also creates a lot of excitement as it gives us a period of time for “theory crafting”.
I asked about a preview of just a couple of runes and was told that is sweatlord spreadsheet meta mindset, so I guess it’s best to just wait like to level until the next day to level, most if not all runes will be discovered or datamined so you can then decide what you want to level and not waste your time.
They are posting weekly updates now. We might get a few runes showcased, but a can mplete list probably won’t be available until they datamined it just before P2.
You’re right, it’s way more fun to level a warlock that ends up getting runes that don’t excite you at all, when you dreamed of deepfreeze mage and they happened to add the rune. Re-leveling with limited time is pure ecstasy.
I wonder if they will release runes with a focus on type, we’ll have to see how p2 runes but I think of it like this (all purely examples):
p1: runes that improved the snoozefest rotations (adding incinerate chaos bolt to destro, for example) and runes that allowed new specs
p2: defensive runes and aoe runes, cloak of shadows, aoe improvements
p3: utility or passive runes that further improve/smooth out rotations, think backdraft talent for destro when you conflag
p4: burst cooldowns, e.g. adding infernal for destro
button bloat would get pretty high fast if they kept adding offensive damage runes every phase, so I see this happening.
All I want to know is this"
-New rune slot options, belts have been thrown around as an option.
-Number of new runes.
I wouldn’t be against knowing what the runes are named but I can survive without that.
It might actually be! A huge part of RPGs, I think at least, is balancing the trade-offs of decisions that you made a long time in the past, and determining if the weight of those decisions still makes sense given what you know now, and where you want to go.
While I understand the idea behind knowing the runes before phase 2 opens, I actually welcome the blind knowledge of them. This prevents pre meta stacking from occurring. While it still happens, it takes time for it to.
showcasing 1 rune to get people excited about the phase will ruin discovery? I guess p1 had no discovery at all then
its not like they’re announcing how to get the runes lol. literally just showing a small set of them to generate hype for the phase, which they will probably do. highly doubt there will be 0 communication between now and Feb 8th.
Yes. No one is forcing you to look at wowhead to discover the runes. Also, leaving the rune types and their abilities up to the imagination only further adds to the sense of discovery and accomplishment in obtaining them.
