Sorry to hear that mate. That is truly unfortunate.
I wanted Humar the Pridelord. I started camping at 10:00am. When I arrived a dwarf hunter was already there. I respected that he was there first so if Humar the Pridelord spawned he would tame him. I wanted to stick around so when the dwarf hunter tamed him I knew roughly when Humar would spawn next.
I checked every hour. Hour 2 approaches. I check back in and the dwarf hunter is still there so I leave. Hour 3 approaches. I check in and the dwarf hunter is still there so I leave. Hour 4 approaches. I check in again and that dwarf hunter is still there, very persistent hunter. I give him many kudos. Hour 5 approaches so I check in. And to my surprise the dwarf hunter is no longer there and there is not another hunter camping him. Now I’m first in line.
Here I am waiting patiently. I’m thinking come on Mr. Humar the Pridelord, you are destined to adventure with me in Azeroth. Hour 6 approaches and no Humar the Pridelord. A troll hunter does how up. He walks on top of the tree and waits. 15 minutes later I move to the side and see he is gone. I wager he just logged out. Hour 7 approaches and no Humar the Pridelord. Now I’m getting tired. It’s about dinner time. My patience is wearing thin. I think to myself I’ll just check in periodically over the next week but let’s wait one more hour. Hour 8 approaches. And no Humar the Pridelord. At this point I have waited all day for him and I need to eat dinner so I press ESC. My character sits down and the 20 second timer to log out begins. At the 10 second mark Humar the Pridelord spawns!
Alright, now it’s on. How do I tame this wonderful beast I think. I must be strong yet gentle at the same time. I drop a freezing trap. Step a couple feet behind it and hit Tame Beast. Alright, here he comes. I’m level 23 at the time and he’s a level 23 elite. He approaches the trap and now is frozen. At about 17 seconds remaining of the tame he breaks free and begins attacking me. My health is quickly dropping. I did have Aspect of the Monkey on. With 1 second remaining of the tame I know he is finally mine. The tame ended and it was not successful. I run for my life but he kills me. I begin to panic thinking someone will show up and tame him.
I wisp myself to him as quickly as I can. I finally arrive and fortunately not a soul was in sight. It was still only me.
Now for attempt number 2. I drop freezing trap but wait, an orc hunter shows up. I think to myself I hope this orc hunter is a nice orc. I hit Tame Beast and here comes Mr. Humar the Pridelord. Again at around 17 seconds of the tame he breaks free of the trap and starts melting my life. With a couple seconds remaining of the tame I think surely he is mine! The tame is over and yet again, the tame was not successful. I run for my life once more; I survived with 50 HP remaining. I eat to regen my health.
Okay, now for attempt number 3. The orc hunter is being very respectful. He allows me to make another attempt. I drop freezing trap and hit Tame Beast. Once again here comes Mr. Humar the Pridelord. He is frozen and at around 17 seconds remaining of the tame he begins clawing at me. 3 seconds remain, 2 seconds 1 second and hallelujah the 3rd tame was successful!
We both now are level 30 and he has been my best mate since.
*UPDATE 9/24/2019 @ 7:30am CST - I was questing in the Badlands. I thought why don’t see if that rare hunter pet is around. I made a macro. I went to the final spawn location, hit the macro and now I have Broken Tooth targeted. I placed a freezing trap down and hit tame beast. He walks to the trap and is now frozen but another cat and bird follow. The cat and bird are attacking me. With about 10 seconds remaining of the tame Broken Tooth breaks free of the freezing trap. Now all three are attacking me. With 300 health remaining I was able to successfully tame Broken Tooth.
