Please, please stop. I beg you. #Brokentooth

Ahem.

AAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHHH!

I know in the grand scheme of pet camping eight hours total isn’t a long time. But today I thought I had my break. After three hours of spamming eagles sight in the Badlands last night with no luck I logged in today and there he was. Broken Tooth.

I mounted up. I raced over. And just as I was about to start the tame, a rogue shows up and pulls him.

“Nononono, please please stop killing him. I beg you!” I cried out to the rogue. A party invite popped up. My hopes returned slightly.

But the rogue did not stop. One auto attack after the next the beasts health fell until it lay slain. Slain like my hopes and dreams.

So how’s the hunt going for the rest of you?

Sorry to hear that mate. That is truly unfortunate.

I wanted Humar the Pridelord. I started camping at 10:00am. When I arrived a dwarf hunter was already there. I respected that he was there first so if Humar the Pridelord spawned he would tame him. I wanted to stick around so when the dwarf hunter tamed him I knew roughly when Humar would spawn next.

I checked every hour. Hour 2 approaches. I check back in and the dwarf hunter is still there so I leave. Hour 3 approaches. I check in and the dwarf hunter is still there so I leave. Hour 4 approaches. I check in again and that dwarf hunter is still there, very persistent hunter. I give him many kudos. Hour 5 approaches so I check in. And to my surprise the dwarf hunter is no longer there and there is not another hunter camping him. Now I’m first in line.

Here I am waiting patiently. I’m thinking come on Mr. Humar the Pridelord, you are destined to adventure with me in Azeroth. Hour 6 approaches and no Humar the Pridelord. A troll hunter does how up. He walks on top of the tree and waits. 15 minutes later I move to the side and see he is gone. I wager he just logged out. Hour 7 approaches and no Humar the Pridelord. Now I’m getting tired. It’s about dinner time. My patience is wearing thin. I think to myself I’ll just check in periodically over the next week but let’s wait one more hour. Hour 8 approaches. And no Humar the Pridelord. At this point I have waited all day for him and I need to eat dinner so I press ESC. My character sits down and the 20 second timer to log out begins. At the 10 second mark Humar the Pridelord spawns!

Alright, now it’s on. How do I tame this wonderful beast I think. I must be strong yet gentle at the same time. I drop a freezing trap. Step a couple feet behind it and hit Tame Beast. Alright, here he comes. I’m level 23 at the time and he’s a level 23 elite. He approaches the trap and now is frozen. At about 17 seconds remaining of the tame he breaks free and begins attacking me. My health is quickly dropping. I did have Aspect of the Monkey on. With 1 second remaining of the tame I know he is finally mine. The tame ended and it was not successful. I run for my life but he kills me. I begin to panic thinking someone will show up and tame him.

I wisp myself to him as quickly as I can. I finally arrive and fortunately not a soul was in sight. It was still only me.

Now for attempt number 2. I drop freezing trap but wait, an orc hunter shows up. I think to myself I hope this orc hunter is a nice orc. I hit Tame Beast and here comes Mr. Humar the Pridelord. Again at around 17 seconds of the tame he breaks free of the trap and starts melting my life. With a couple seconds remaining of the tame I think surely he is mine! The tame is over and yet again, the tame was not successful. I run for my life once more; I survived with 50 HP remaining. I eat to regen my health.

Okay, now for attempt number 3. The orc hunter is being very respectful. He allows me to make another attempt. I drop freezing trap and hit Tame Beast. Once again here comes Mr. Humar the Pridelord. He is frozen and at around 17 seconds remaining of the tame he begins clawing at me. 3 seconds remain, 2 seconds 1 second and hallelujah the 3rd tame was successful!

We both now are level 30 and he has been my best mate since.

*UPDATE 9/24/2019 @ 7:30am CST - I was questing in the Badlands. I thought why don’t see if that rare hunter pet is around. I made a macro. I went to the final spawn location, hit the macro and now I have Broken Tooth targeted. I placed a freezing trap down and hit tame beast. He walks to the trap and is now frozen but another cat and bird follow. The cat and bird are attacking me. With about 10 seconds remaining of the tame Broken Tooth breaks free of the freezing trap. Now all three are attacking me. With 300 health remaining I was able to successfully tame Broken Tooth.

I’m glad your persistence paid off! Humar is one seriously beautiful looking animal.

As a follow up to my earlier tale, I can confirm Broken Tooth has about a seven hour respawn time. Set an alarm after my early frustrating experience, logged in, and after about twenty minutes he spawned right in front of me this time!

Seriously excited to have tamed him. Possibly even more excited to never have to camp like this again.

well, hopefully they will expand your stables NOW so that all of your hard work isn’t wasted #classicexperience , start campaigning for the GOOD changes that happened in WOW before it is too late.

I disagree, three slots is enough.

I’m not totally sure where I stand on this yet. I know Broken Tooth will be permanently occupying a slot now, but with my mount and how expensive skills are I haven’t even bought my third slot at level 43.

I guess from a looks collector perspective, three feels incredibly restrictive. I have a host of rare and difficult tames in my stable on retail. I’m proud of them, as much as one can be proud of pixels. Most of them have fun or exciting memories attached to the tame, and I like that as part of the hunter experience.

From an opposing practical standpoint, once I’ve trained all the skills/abilities I want there are only three pets I’m really interested in: cat, windserpent, and wolf. Good enough for me personally right now, though admittedly the more diverse nature of tameable pets in classic feels less meaningful when you have to choose such a small sample of those pets to tame.

Not even close to enough, but I support having classic WoW as authentic as possible.

They SHOULD have made it right back then, but revisionism isn’t the point of classic WoW.

This reminds me. Part of teaching my dad classic is to not touch a pet being tamed by a hunter.

Do they have the elemental defense pets in game? (Defense v fire, shadow, etc), Because if they do, those are pretty essential. Pets in classic were NOT created equally…you’ll find that some are far better than others in different situations.

classic isn’t a collector’s game like retail is. it’s kind of nice having only three slots, it keeps me from feeling like i need to go get all kinds of different pets. one dps pet, one tank for soloing some stuff, and one for whatever else.

I logged on one morning and saw brokentooth. I ran over and an eneamy NE hunter was taming him. So being horde… i kille the NE hunter who was petless and couldnt even put up a fight… then tamed brokentooth before they could rez.

I’m happy with my new pet

Of all the contrived complimets for classic I’ve seen this is one of the worst, my god. Not being able to collect pets is a good thing because it relieves you of the desire to go get pets you want? I’ve seen it all

I feel for ya. I was lucky enough to secure the tame after 3 to 4 days of on an off camping. When he popped up, I ran as fast of my wee Dorf’s Legs could carry him while at the same time abandoning my current pet.

To make matters spicy, an ally warrior saw him and approached him and was jumped by 3 mobs he had aggroed. I got to BT first and secured the tame, but even that was an experience.

For a brief second at the end of the tame, a pet popped up and Broken Tooth was still attacking me. I though I had failed to abandoned my current pet and was trying to abandon it so I could health pot and re-tame…then I realized I had BT.

BT is now my pet and renamed “Sidhe” short for Cait Sidhe.

Now to buy the third slot since I feel its more important for Hunters than the damn mount.

Cool story bro.

go get rake… he has 1.2 attack speed instead of 1.0… and he MURDERS sh_t… and his respawn timer is SUPER fast… and no one is ever around the back of thunderbluff, so no competition…

You’re welcome

After six long days I finally found and tamed Broken Tooth.

Be aware if you log out etc. you may be on another layer when you come back. I had missed a tame but I had his time down. Five hours later I log in and wait. At the nine hour mark I knew I’d lost him to layering. I just gutted out seven straight hours till he popped on the layer I was on.

was it worth waiting and not doing anything else in-game for 6 days, countless hours?

Tell you what.
I was very excited to get broken tooth but I was just as excited to have a normal nights sleep. You have to weigh what’s important to you.
