Please - No shards in SW on RP Servers

I mean, thanks for the bump, but you’re incorrect. Valdrakken on the MG/WRA/Etc server cluster is packed, and it’s sharded also. The prepatch and launch population was wild, Stormwind really did need sharding then. Doing a TRP3 map scan then showed that the dock was a sea of dots.

People haven’t really gone back to the city because they’re leveling and also there’s no point with sharding on, but it’s about time to switch it off so that we can get back to our Nerdy Barbie Games mixed in with whatever other content people like to do.

Running into new and returning players wondering why the servers look so dead… well, they’re not. They’re just sharded. Help us out, Blizz!

Bumping. Get rid of the sharding or at least show us why it needs to be up. Never had issues with it lasting this long before. Fix this stuff if you want to prove to be a half decent dev team.

Maintain presence. Make it notable.

Is Blizz still on Twitter? Hopefully this is being blown up there, too.

FUN FACT.

Shadowlands launched on November 23rd, 2020. Sharding was turned on at that time, as is the norm for expansions when everyone is funneled through one city/area.

Sharding was turned off by December 7th. Two weeks later. We are now three weeks after launch! People are starting to hit max level and return to the cities to pick up their storylines and interactions where they left off and are running into largely empty cities. Our addons tell us how many other people are actually around, we can see exactly what we’re missing.

Dragonflight has so many nods to roleplay, from the city of Valdrakken having tons of seating, tables, rooms, inns, etc. to toys to transmog…it’s a shame that you’re looking at driving away your evergreen subscribers who stay steadily subbed through content lulls and after raid tiers, year after year, demanding close to nothing in expensive new content so that we can be left alone to putter around in Stormwind and Orgrimmar and do our weird combination of acting and writing for fun.

Did I mention that we also spend a ton of real cash on tokens, and shop-bought mounts, toys, pets and transmog?

Our hobby, in the form that most of us do where you can walk up to anyone at a main hub and start interacting, is only accessible with the removal of sharding.

I realize that there’s a ton of stuff that is just plain flat broken right now. I’m sure there’s internal triage and making it so that my Draenei and her husband can sit on the overlook and watch people and comment about passers-by as they plan out the next raid on an evil cult that they need to do is probably low on the list of to-dos, but on the whole, Roleplayers kind of get tired of being at the bottom of the priority list considering how much we invest in the game. Logging in every day, staying logged in all the time, bumping those #engagement metrics, posting about the game on our social media accounts, giving you all kinds of money that the baseline casual doesn’t on a consistent basis.

I’m sure our special no-sharding-or-phasing-in-legacy-content-and-major-cities ruleset is a pain, and requires manual workarounds. But it’s one of the only things that we really need to be content with making our own fun.

If this spiel sounds rehearsed, it’s because we have to drag it out every…SINGLE…TIME…sharding gets blipped back on, for a prepatch or a new expansion launch. We’d LOVE to not have to get mad and make a fuss, but somehow we always do until someone nudges the Server Gremlins. It always ends up leaving a bad will behind, when all the new content in Dragonflight could’ve made it an easy win for you guys.

Poke the Server Gremlin and remind him that he needs to flip the switch!

Got all my vault stuff done for the week so I’m ready to chillax and figured I could do some RP but nope. Thanks Blizzard, you’d think they would learn.

Gonna bump the thread and encourage everyone to ask their official twitter channels (@Warcraft, @WarcraftDevs, @BlizzardCS, etc) when they’re planning to fix this; I’ve not gotten any responses to my posts yet, but maybe one of us will.

I am truly exhausted with this. Pls.

I’m running around moon guard right now trying to find people and I’ve only found 8 people, there’s a lot more than 8 people on this server’s SW.

still in a dismal state.

It needed to be done. The server would lag or crash if not.

Erm…well there’s this expansion called dragonflight that released. The new hub city has an auction house as well as everything else so…ogr and sw are dead now. No reason to be there unless alt not 61+.

have you never been to an RP server

I have, and the only real reason so many people were there was auction house. Now that AH has returned to expansion cities for everyone and not just engineers, people have moved to the DF hub and capitals are dead.

I think you’re missing the point pretty badly of this thread. Sharding shouldn’t exist on MG or WRA in the main capitols.

They probably forgot with all the bugs thats a top priority right now over that. And of course M+ tuning as we saw the huge list.

idk but thanks for helping keep this bumped up on the top until it gets resolved.

Not always. Sometimes, if you’re on a busy server, you may find your capital city bustling. The lag is unbelievable when that happens.

My feeling is that they do not take engineering issues into consideration when drawing up plans for changes.

This isn’t the case on Moonguard currently.

As someone else posted in the thread, the addon TRP allows you to scan a zone for other people with the addon so you can look for RP spots. Currently you can scan and the scan will show people that should be right in front of you, but are not visible because they are in another shard.

I logged in on two different characters in Stormwind and there was barely anyone around in either shard, both of them had different people too.

Stormwind is still sharded beyond anything reasonable.
