Please Make SoftRes More Common

I’ve been pugging my BFD raids for the most part and wound up in a 2 item SoftRes group without realizing recently. I honestly forgot they existed after not playing WotLK Classic for so long. Never thought about doing them for BFD and never saw anyone advertising them.

This lockout I waited for about 15 minutes looking at LFG and ended up never seeing anyone advertise one. So I decided to be the change I wanted to see. I put together 2 different groups for each of my toons and man, I am so happy I did. On both toons I managed to snag a set piece after like 5 lockouts of not getting any. 2 others would have normally been able to roll, but SoftRes did it’s thing! I also got a pearl on one toon after only having to roll against one other player for it instead of like 6! No greedily HardResing pearl for me!

I ended up having 2 different people thank me at the end of the raids for putting a SoftRes group together. They ended up getting loot from a reserve. Both were 2 pieces of BiS so it was really big for them.

I also noticed that SoftRes is a great way to get better players. I only invited those who knew what it is and we had two super clean runs with only a death or two, no wipes. For a pug. I didn’t have to ask for gearscore, buffs, pots, experience, whatever. Felt great not to have to ask.

Anyways. To all those pug raid leads out there. Please start doing SoftRes. It is much more fair and enjoyable loot distribution which really works wonders this late into the phase when you really only need specific pieces anymore. I had no problem filling. Very few people messaged me asking about it who didn’t understand. There really is no reason not to at this point.

or… you could just do no reserves and let people who can use the item /random 100 for the win

Absolutely not, sr is the worst loot system. I will always use roll, with a +1 on bis at most.

Do you not know what SoftRes is?

Only people who can use the item can SoftRes.

The point is the make it less RNG. So people receive consistent loot instead of some random dude sweeping like 5 items in 1 raid.

Where I’m at gear wise this 100% makes sense to me seeing as I only need one thing in the entire raid.

yeah, soft res is the same as /random 100 for people that can use the item…

But it’s not…?

/Random is just free rolling. Which means 1 dude can take all the loot. Even if that piece of loot is the single item you want that’s left…

Soft rez is a good loot system, and so is GDKP

My guild uses soft res system. It boils down to things like:

2 shamans soft ressing the agi shoulders
2 healers soft ressing the pearl.
A hunter and a rogue soft ressing leather tier pieces.
The warrior soft ressing weapons.
The casters soft ressing epic staff and ring or cloth tier.

You dont bother soft ressing things only one person would use. This system just makes you /roll against 1 person for specific loot pieces, instead of like 6.

Its a good system.

it makes people choose the items they prioritize and actually value instead of rolling on stuff just because they can

What a surprise.

I’m starting to know you Baddtank for your bad takes.

Can you explain why you think SR is the worst loot system in the game?

How often to you run raids with a +1 to rolls? I’ve never seen a organizer do that in classic ever.

I just want them to fix their loot tables next phase because it’s been sad this phase.

Make it 20 mans with 50% more loot.

GDKP leader trying to afford his rent.

Buddy I didn’t mention GDKP at all.

Talking about SR and whatever system he is using

It is BFD ffs, if you are using any loot rules outside need/greed, your raid is an absolute joke. 3 day lockout and a brain dead raid and people trying to set loot rules rofl

There’s nothing wrong with trying to spread loot out to everyone, instead of just the same 2 people getting all the loot and everyone else just walks away with a repair bill

Soft res is fine, it lets geared players get prio and roll on specific pieces against a smaller pool while less geared can compete for the other drops. Hell I saw near bis raid players softres midnight in kara with no need for any other drop.

The only problem I’ve noticed with SR is people will start inspecting gear on other players to see what they can get away with not reserving. For example I did a 3x SR BFD today and the other hunter put in a SR for the set piece chest but not the helm. He didn’t have a helm at all and that helm is very good, so it makes no sense to pick chest over helm when he was already running a tunic of westfall.

However after inspecting the others that would reasonably want it I saw that everyone else already had it. So he’s essentially banking on it being guaranteed to be his anyways if it drops and gets to spread his choices out to more contested items.

Also, and idk if you can just do private mode SR’s, but being able to see publicly what everyone has SR’ed can lead to weird situations too. Same hunter initially had SR set to shoulders, set chest, and pearl - but right after I put my SR in (which was 3x xbow since I’m BiS otherwise) he switched one of his SR’s to the xbow because he knew it wasn’t going to be open rolled since I was SR’ing it and this way he has a chance now to win it.

Overall, it’s a pretty decent system and helps loot get distributed out a bit more versus potentially being stacked on one lucky person, though that’s easily solved by simply saying “you know what I’ve already won X piece(s), you take this”

there is no perfect system but SR is pretty dang good overall

Let people game the system all they want Imo. The typical failure point is when nothing good drops as is with most loot rules.
