I was delighted with the removal of all those pesky portals. Being able to get around so quickly felt so confining. The added travel times feel so much more relaxing! Finally, I have a bit more game time to get some thinking done.
Anyway, as I was stepping up to the elevator in Orgrimmar on a fresh, new level 8 troll warlock (I love warlocks because they’re so slow), I found it a little jarring that the elevator arrived so quickly! I’d only been standing there for fifteen to twenty seconds and blam! There the lift is all the sudden, forcing me to put my hands back on the keyboard. Geez, it’s one thing after another in this game, sometimes.
So, I decided to wait for the next elevator while I pondered the problem. That’s when inspiration struck!
Make the elevators slower. They move so quickly from top to bottom and bottom to top. I barely have time to alt-tab and check Instagram on the way up, much less strike up a chat with a fellow elevator patron. Could you slow things down a bit? Maybe give us time to chat with other players on the lift or just enjoy the ride?
If that’s not enough to convince you that the elevator speed needs decreased, here’s the icing on the cake:
It will make the structures taller!
Take Thunder Bluff, for example. Already majestic, no doubt, but imagine how much taller it could be with slower elevators. Decrease the elevator speed and Thunder Bluff will reach to the clouds.
One more thing, if I may: Do you know how there’s that little zone around some NPCs that dismounts players? Can you just put that around entire cities? I like to walk everywhere because I find mounts so fast, and if I’m riding a mount, I’m always afraid I’ll miss something. But because everyone else is zipping around on their mounts (or even worse, flying), cities feel so lonely. If you eliminate the mounts in cities and slow the darn elevators down, I might finally get a chance to strike up some conversations with strangers on the elevator, just like I get to do in real life.
That’s all for now, Blizzard. I confess feeling a little guilty asking for more, especially after you’ve been so nice to listen to players like me and trim down the portals. You can’t imagine how much I appreciate it. (Although, truth be told, you never did remove the water walking ability from the water walking mounts like I begged you to do, and I’m still disappointed about that.)
Overall though, you’re doing a bang-up job of making Azeroth a bigger, slower, less stimulating experience, and for folks like me (all three of us), that makes the game so much more enjoyable.
