Please let us opt out of racial starting zones!

With new Goblin and Worgen models finally here I am going to once again plead a case for this: Please let us opt out of racial starting zones.

OPTING OUT IS NOT THE SAME AS SKIPPING THOSE LEVELS.
Read on for what I mean.

I would like to suggest that after making a Pandaren, Worgen or Goblin once we get the option to teleport ahead to the main land the next time we make one. A Bronze Dragon could just port us to Orgrimmar or Stormwind or to the Orc or Human starting areas and we can level there instead.

The racial starting areas are wonderful but after many years have passed they have gotten stale since you are on rails the entire time. It’s the same experience every time through. Gilneas content still has a habit of bugging out and stopping progress entirely.

It would be a lot of fun to run around, say, Elwynn as a low level Worgen (worgen will need to get two forms upon interacting with the dragon btw) and just doing as I please if I’m not feeling an hour or two of Gilneas…again.

(Same could be done for Death Knights but since the DK quests are a little bit shorter and serve to introduce the playstyle of a DK, DK abilities, and the mount I can understand this being more difficult to achieve. Ditto for Demon Hunters.)

We used to be able to leave the Worgen starting zone if we did it right off and didn’t do any quests. But they recently made that impossible. Don’t know why, it’s been that way since Worgen were introduced into the game but now suddenly it’s a problem? The Worgen starting zone was always a bit problematic but now it’s a horribly buggy mess that isn’t worth trying to play through.

Goblins could be summoned off the island, considering the recent “fix” to Worgen being able to leave their starting area I do wonder if Goblins can still be summoned off.

As for Pandaren, of course they fixed that long ago since you don’t choose your faction until the end.

That said, I am with you on this one, let us leave those starting areas if we want and go somewhere else to begin our leveling. One of the things I really dislike about this game is our lack of choice.

If you leave Gilneas right away, the how do you get bitten?

You don’t get bitten, but still get the curse when you log out and back in. Otherwise a Gilnean is nothing more than a redheaded human.

I did find it rather annoying when I tried a worgen that I was forced to do their introduction area. Matter of fact I think my druid is still there because I was bored with it and never went back.

I thought I’d bang out the first levels real quick and try it out, hours later I finally get to Darnassus and just log out. It’s too long.

With level scaling, how can you be out-leveling the areas?

If you want to make a worgen, no reason you shouldn’t go through same start-up stuff we did.

If you want to make a goblin, no reason you shouldn’t go through same start-up stuff we did.

If you want to make a panda, no reason you shouldn’t go through same start-up stuff we did.

You might as well include DK’s and DH’s in that list, as they too have instanced “starting” areas.

Although how would your idea work for Pandaren? Considering they have to choose a faction after they have made the character

DKs and Demon Hunters are slightly more complicated because they introduce the playstyles of a class but yes, they could get Bronze Dragon’d too.

As for Pandas, they’d work the same way as everyone else. Except their Dragon asks them to pick a faction if they decide to leave their starting area. The dragon would appear if you’d already done the content, probably in humanoid form, standing off to the side of the area where your character typically spawns in. After creation, in other words. Talk to the dragon to port out, or quest on if you want to do the content again.

An interesting concept. Though DK and DH get their class mount for the ground early on. Kinda defeats the point… Though I understand after playing it for so long, you do get bored of it. The Worgen starting zone is BORING quick!

I still wish I could have the car from the Goblin starting zone that can seat 3 people and the driver!

Just saying… it is still possible to leave the Worgen starting zone. noting that at level 5 you will have the Worgen curse thrust upon you. Elwynn forest is the only place you can level in as Teldrassil will not pop up with any quests.

Basically you’re jumping right over to the canal instead of over the fence because the wall on the fence is too big now. (If you know the normal method).

Now do I think it’s worth it? Probably not. They go by really quick. Even if Blizzard was to implement your suggestion it would very likely be a level skip to 20 with a tie into the Hero Board quest. It would just be a prompt to say ‘are you sure you want to skip the introduction to this class’ and would probably require you to have a 80+ character of that race.

I would much prefer they fix the starting zones first before implementing an optional skip.

If you could only skip after having done it at least once, the mounts would be in your collection already, so that issue would solve itself.

The heck is up with people always asking for “skips” for everything?
If you don’t want to play… then don’t.
What exactly are you hoping a skip to get you closer to? Whats the goal you want to achieve with all these alts you don’t want to play?

It just defaults the curse onto the character on next log in

New Draenei still survive the crash. Which is funny.

When you have already done each starter zone numerous times…why?

First Hyperbolic statement such as “skips for everything” do not help.

Second what someone else wants has no effect on you so no point in that statement.

Third the posters are not claiming to not want to play but rather to skip an introduction after they have already done said introduction. Same as skipping tutorials for games you know how to play.

Fourth why post when you bring nothing to the discussion other than trying to force others to play how you think it should be done.

/end grumblings of an old man.

I think skipping tutorials after they have been done once is a great idea, or next expansion just create a new starting zone that all races can opt to goto instead as most starting areas are woefully out of date with the current story line.
