I shall defeat the anti RDF sentiment with one blow (post).
- Brian Birmingham, the Lead for Classic WoW, has stated:
Brian Birmingham: First, I want to emphasize that our goal is to provide a tool that makes it easy to find groups, without sacrificing human-to-human interaction.
-
RMT/Botting has been left unchecked, leading to insane GDKP pots…leading to people buying gold as MS>OS and SR pugs have become less popular.
-
PUGs for dungeons, heroics, previous phase’s raids have devolved into looking into LFG BB (making the best out of a cruddy situation), excessive gatekeeping (x cleave, CC only, t6 geared only [for kara lmfao]), etc.
-
As the expansion has played out, less groups are able to form in a reasonable amount of time unless you are on a mega server, tank/healer, or fit the requirements for players’ excessive gatekeeping. Gearing an alt has become a chore instead of something fun to do after you’ve gotten your main to a good point in their path to awesomeness.
-
Phase 5 and Magisters Terrace has really put the writing on the wall: Hard reserve runs for coveted trinkets (can look past this), more gatekeeping, and my favorite, H-MGT GDPK RUN SHARD BUYERS ONLY MIN BID 5K.
-
The Classic WoW devs have stated there will be at least 1 week delay between launch and T7 raids opening.
If you’re still reading, thank you. Anyone still here has the mental capacity to take the previous list of facts/observations and see how WotLK classic will play out. Be warned, what you’re about to see is likely to happen and has serious consequences unless RDF is enabled.
- Heroic Dungeon GDKP/Hard Res/Item Selling. Without RDF, it will be very easy to exploit players for their gold, or their inability to form a group to support someone else reserving items.
2a. Excessive gatekeeping. The desire and culture to get full prebis before raid will lead to armor class runs (kinda fair/makes sense), X cleave, etc. Oh and my favorite: Gearscore.
2b. Gearscore will make a return. With the itemization in WotLK the current tier gear replaces the previous tier almost exclusively (e.g. no more arcane mages in t5 or still being competitive in a mix of gear). This will exclude people who level slower or working on alts.
3a. LESS social interaction. Fresh start means everyone will be looking to gear up again. Chat will be spammed and LFG Bulletin Board will be necessary. Dont have a high enough gear score? No invite
3b. The classic team is looking into improving the group finder tool and there is a possibility of a LFG tool like retail where you can post groups. It currently allows you to filter by itemlevel. If this part if removed, addon developers will find a way to integrate gearscore into it (or players will ignore player listings without/low gearscore).
-
WotLK content and 3.3.5 talents make dungeons a cakewalk. Again, players will seek groups with the most cleave/aoe potential, and exclude single target specs or tanks/heals that arent meta and cannot zoom zoom.
-
As with TBC, once the initial rush is over, it will take longer to find groups on your main and even more time on lesser geared alts.
Without RDF, you will do more harm than good, Blizzard. I hope the community is ready for what is to come.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk. Make sure to like, comment, and subscribe. If you disagree, please comment intelligently and respectfully (maybe we need a social contract for the forums lol).
Since I am not a stinky horde, I am well versed in diplomacy. Here are some compromises I am willing to make (not necessarily all at once):
- RDF for vanilla/tbc dungeons
- RDF after 1-2 months of t7 content being out
- RDF for wotlk normals unlock after X amount of time.
- RDF for everything but heroics on launch and heroic dungeon RDF released after phase 2(tier 8).
