Play what you like. Don’t worry what the flavor of the month is. Next patch/xpac it’ll be different.
Pshhh. I always played Outlaw before it became cool. And it’s entirely because I like the aesthetic.
If you’re looking to push keys, melee is where its at with how many interrupts are required in dungeons these days.
Ele is viable as well because of the short duration interrupt, but you’re still going to be better off playing a melee of some sort.
Although, any spec is viable in the +10-15 range and even higher if you’re skilled, though if you’re pugging you’ll want to stick with meta picks as getting into a group will be far easier.

Play what you enjoy at some point they wreck every class/spec.
Outlaw will receive from the Devs, “a delicious nerf” in his AOE!
It will be better to evaluate other classes and specs!
Tank:
Prot War
BrM Monk
Prot Pally
Healers:
Rdruid or bust
DPS:
Outlaw rogue, Havoc DH
WW Monk if you’re going triple melee
Mages & Ele shammies are sneaking back in, as well as hunters.
Those are the “safe” classes/specs.
It already did. A substantial one at that. And it’s still by far the best DPS for M+.
Enhancement Shaman
The game has generally favored melee across the board for at least a couple of xpacs now. I get why, people like melee because it’s fast and punchy, but it sucks for long-time caster players. In PvE classes that can keep up output while moving are favored and in PvP anything with a cast time is severely punished.
Looking at the top DPS classes from raider dot io seeing a ton of rogues, demon hunters, and even beast mastery hunters.
I’m wanting to reroll to a DPS class. Not interested in playing elemental.
Thinking more along the lines of melee DPS. Thoughts? Recommendations?!
YOU ARE NOT INSURED! ![]()
So should we wait for another nerf? How nice!
After all, we don’t want other classes to feel downgraded by outlaw to finally do something better than others by at least one point!
LIGHT bless the mediocrity!
I don’t want this thread to turn into a discussion on why outlaw was nerfed, but it was ABSOLUTELY deserved, and the nerf didn’t “gut” the spec, they’re still doing amazing damage and have the best M+ utility in the game.
They could nerf blade flurry again by the same amount and outlaw will still be absolutely viable in M+.
Chill.
Favor melee? Wut?
Melee has been grossly disserviced in raid this entire expansion aside from a fight or two a tier.
Casters are overwhelmingly more powerful than melee in raid.
There’s a reason why you rarely see a bunch of melee in RWF comps, or even in progression comps.
Admittedly I don’t raid much but I don’t see how casters can thrive with all the dodging you have to do in M+ and raiding, except maybe with specs that turboboost instant/short casts. At the very least, I’ve found low-mid tier M+ keys to be way more manageable on my arms warrior and ret paladin than I have on this guy.
In PvP melee have tons of gap closers, interrupts, stuns, etc so if you as a caster screw up a gapmaker cooldown even once your chances of winning drop through the floor, except maybe with moonkins.
Melee excels in M+ right now because of how many must-interrupt casts blizz has sprinkled into dungeons. That’s the main reason.
Just look at the top parses in raid right now. Aside from a couple fights it’s almost entirely casters. That’s just the way it is.
Next expac it won’t be different. This is a trap. Play a rogue, DH, lock.
Demo warlock was the bomb pre implosion trait nerf.
We all saw it coming when you could have 30% haste buff uptime forever.
The Hunter that holds the #1 spot on raider I.O. for all dps did his keys as Marksmansip, not Beast!
MM hunter is doing really well in keys now that reaping isn’t a thing.
In push keys you aren’t pulling 3-4 groups at a time. You aren’t generally over the MM AoE cap, and MM’s burst single target is pretty gnarly.
