Hey i need some explanation on how the saving appearances system works, on the past few weeks i have been running nighthold heroic to get the shoulders of the DK tier with my warr and DK chars after seeing something that i will explain now i started to go with mail chars and this is why, some of the mail appearances saved to my mail chars, not all of them, some so i supposed that this could go in both sense and now farming another set in ICC to complete DK tier 10 normal appearances i got the boots with my hunter but it didn’t got saved on my DK, can some please explain this to me?
Ok first, punctuation! Not being condescending, it’s just a very confusing phrase there.
Now before pre-patch, you needed a mail wearer to learn mail pieces, plate wearer to learn plate pieces and so on.
It is no longer the case now. Now any non-tier set pieces are fair game to be learned. That means the plate pieces marked for Dks can only be learned if looted by a Dk toon. Any weapons will also be learned by anyone that loots them, mog rules still apply to use the appearance but the acquisition is easier.
Tier pieces are somewhat improved. If a token that creates a class-restricted piece of armor (e.g., tier piece) drops in an older raid, that token is Warband bound and can be mailed to an alt of the required class to be learned.
Vanilla raids like Molten Core still drop actual tier class-restricted gear pieces, so this implementation hasn’t changed that. These are not Warband bound (and in fact remain soulbound) so can only be learned if the character that loots it is the correct class.
And more recent content like Dragonflight isn’t affected either, since this change is only about outdated content and transmog, not farming current power gear for alts.
From running ToS on legacy mode, I am yet to see a token. Only set pieces. Was there tokens when it was current? Would make sense. Had old Kara tokens in a bank I was able to mail so that is neat. Do pre-legion legacy raids drop token or are they pieces when looting? I only know the bc-lk do.
ToS used to drop gear for personal loot and tokens for other loot rules. I don’t know which behavior Legacy loot mode is closer to. (But I don’t recall seeing very many tokens soloing H ToS, so maybe it’ll drop gear not tokens. Less useful thay way.)
Yeaaaah, and to the maiden with my Druid hoping she drops the coat! Seeen all the others of course! And that bloody wakening essence on bonus loot rolls!
Besides the non-set pieces, Legion raids mostly drop gear already earmarked for certain classes. Unfortunately, most of the gear from that expansion will say Class: X on it and not be unlockable by anybody of another class.
Raids and even different difficulties or bosses have different rules about tokens v pieces.
Dragon Soul for example: on LFR, many of the pieces already drop as Class: X instead of as a token, however in N and H, tokens drop.
In Blackrock Foundry, LFR has no tier, but in Normal and Heroic, tier is dropped ALREADY set for specific classes (no tokens) BUT there is an omni token that drops off Blackhand that IS Warbound.
So far, the safest raids to farm transmog on for Warbound items are AQ 20/40 (qiraji pieces are Warbound), BC raids, WotLK raids, Cata raids (except DS LFR), MoP (though you should have gotten it all in remix), Emerald Nightmare in Legion only, and BFA raids.
You should avoid MC, BWL, DS LFR, BRF, HFC, NH, ToS, and AtBT if you are concerned about class specific pieces and/or hope they will eventually change this feature.
Thanks for that list!
Great list! Just as an addition, the Vault of Archavon raid in Wintergrasp (WOLK) is pretty much only class-specific drops aside from the mount.
Real gear. Much of the loot table is PvP gear, not raid tier gear. But no tokens, AFAIR. So still class-locked.
I think this is also true of the other PvP-related raid, Baradin Hold in Cataclysm.
Yeah, I logged onto a character that farmed it a few weeks ago to see if any of the loot was learned after pre-patch, but forgot it was all class-locked. I went in on an evoker, so none of the gear was useful, but I was in the area on the character and still needed the mount. I did get the mount finally, so there is that!
