Please help

Every since Dragonflight launch i’ve been getting lag spikes. It’s definitely on my end. all the mobs will stop attacking me, I can keep hitting buttons but my character won’t do anything. Then after about 6 seconds or so Bam it all finally registers, and were good to go until it happens again.
I currently have
Intel i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20 GHz
16GB Ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070.
and a 1gb internet connection speed (usually sits around 300 Mbps

I could probably lower my graphic settings from ultra, but I’d rather just upgrade what ever is causing the problem. Any advice?

What about mods? You using any mods?

you cant play on ultra with that setup. I have a 12700k and 3080ti and still drop under 60 fps at times (on an ultrawide 1440p monitor)

That looks like a fine set-up! Umm, do you have an ssd card as well as hdd?

nothing crazy DBM and World quest tracker. Thats pretty much it for mods

I have 5 1TB hard drives all SSD

I’ve never had an issue on ultra settings before this.

you mean before this expansion? sure. Try dropping your graphics down to 7 as a baseline and see if the problem stops, then start cranking stuff up manually. my guess its an issue with the older graphics card and one of the newer settings.

I’ll give it a shot, What graphics card would you recommend? I know its been a few years since I upgraded everything. I don’t know how long GPU, CPU last or stay relevent

I don’t think it is. Is this happening in the Azure Span by chance?

I had this issue for a bit, but it has cleared up, so far…

Seems to be everywhere once a lot of people show up to that zone. I was doing dailies for wrathion and about every 25 seconds or so i get hit with it. The cooking feast triggers it and the capitol will too.

its all based on your budget. you can get a low end radeon 6600 for 200 bucks that’s comparable in FPS to a 1070, but a newer card with newer features. Or you can for a high end… unfortunately, GPU’s are expensive at the high end, at least compared to what they were when you bought your 1070.

It could be something else. I have another system with a 4770k and a 1080 i play around on without issue. I think i keep the graphics at 6 or 7 on that system. so it could be some windows issue, or driver issue (network adapter maybe?)

Best buy has the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070Ti 12GB I can go get it, my only concern is at what points am i bottle necked because of my processor / motherboard?

I recently updated my computer:

Western Digital 1TB WD SN350 NVMe Internal SSD Solid State Drive

Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 750W 80+ Gold SLI

ASUS Prime Z690-P WiFi LGA1700(Intel 12th Gen) ATX Motherboard

TOSHIBA MG03ACA200 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive Bare Drive

Intel Core I7-12700K 3.6 12 core CPU with Intel UHD graphics

Corsair Vengeance 32GB kit (2x16GB) DDR5 4800MHz memory

MSI Nividia GeForce 3080 12GB PCI Graphcis Card

SAMSUNG Odyssey G7 Series 27-Inch WQHD (2560x1440) Gaming Monitor, 240Hz, Curved

For me I’m changing out the ssd and power supply in about a year.

I’ve only 50mb internet speed. I haven’t looked at fps, but it’s finally not doing what your saying - that I spent all of SL dealing with.

Don’t know a lot to speak with any authority on the subject, but maybe this helps?

I don’t know too much about them to be honest, If I upgrade my GPU, Should i upgrade my processor as well, and if i do that should i upgrade my motherboard? I don’t know where to start or stop lol

Omg, same here! When this guy started building a computer for me he didn’t listen to what I wanted and put in what he thought I needed. Sons said he was a neckbeard? Lol - he saw older/62 and woman/girl … and went from there.

I’ve been down the rabbit hole on components, building computers - articles, YouTube, copious amount of info. Only the real experts here can tell you. Ive a decent foundation to build on, but man, the combo’s, manufactures, newer doesn’t necessarily mean better.

It’s a lot of work to figure out yourself. Maybe find one of those people on Thumbtack or what-have-you that build computers and go from there. You probably only have to upgrade a little at a time. I did learn higher graphics card means you need a better power supply - the gpu gets a lot of load, but need right cpu to handle it … so you can see it’s a daisy-chain kind of thing. So start with the basics. CPU, GPU - Start googling from there.

I wish I knew enough to verbalize it all, but wishing you good luck.

Your CPU would be a bottleneck to that card. WOW is pretty CPU intensive, especially in crowded areas. Im not saying you need an entire new build to fix your problem, but if you want to run at max settings, you probably need a GPU and CPU upgrade

So I was doing some testing and my internet was sitting around 300 Mbps down and .07 up. I plugged it into my ethernet switch board and now i’m at 800 down and 23 up. we will see if that makes a difference I’ll keep you guys posted.

Yea, that up speed would kill you. I haven’t heard of gigabit internet with such bad up speeds. im 1 up 1 down.
