Raidbots says I should be getting around 21k DPS single target, when I am getting 15K, give or take, if I don’t make any mistakes with my rotation. If lucky, I burst to 30k, or can sustain 23k on a two target fight if the targets are close together.
Could you folks please look at my gear and talents and tell me where I may be going wrong? I have read the icy-veins guides, seen YouTube videos etc.
I’m no expert, since I’m a returning player, but I’m SURE I can do better than 15K with an ilvl of 400!!!
Couple questions: Is it all fights you’re getting that low? What boss settings are you using for raidbots? And what buffs/debuffs does your raid group have?
The first 3 are easily verified and for purposes of this thread we’ll assume you can check off each as done correctly. The next ones aren’t so cut and dried. Looking at your gear and experience I’m going to guess you bought a run for heroic. Now, that’s not an insult or an attempt to troll you; simply an observation as you have one mythic+ done, no normal BFD’A bosses down and precisely one kill of every boss on heroic.
All of the above tells me that you’ve really only seen the fights on LFR and while that is ok for practicing, it fails to prepare you for the increased difficulty and added mechanics of heroic. Since you’ve only seen the fights as a frost mage once on heroic, I wouldn’t worry too much about your dps.
If you or whoever you ran with posted logs, you can check them out and see where you rank. Don’t worry about your main log, that’s just how well you did against every posted frost mage of all ILs. Click on the “% for IL” and see. Besides that, I’m going to guess you just need practice and you’ll be fine.
Wow so much misinformation here it’s actually scary. First off, the OP isn’t asking if they should play another class, he/she needs help with mage. Secondly “mage parsing potentials are completely unrealistic” makes no sense. It’s not a good tier for mage, but that’s irrelevant to the discussion. OP wants to know how to get up to his/her sim number, not be told some nonsense. Thirdly, if you parse less than 12k as a mage with 399 IL, you can and should feel badly.
I don’t parse because I quit… my point was the potential damage for mages, which I misidentified as parses, are completely unrealistic. Achieving high Mage potential DPS is situational at best.
Again, that makes no sense and is totally irrelevant to what the OP is asking for. And the fact that you quit the game and not only still post on the forums but post blatantly false information mystifies me.
No, I’m calling out an obvious troll. The concept that you think telling someone to re-roll is helping is laughable. You have nothing to add so no reason to be here.
Thanks guys! Yes, I did get carried, because I’m so far behind and wanted to gear up. No offence taken! I genuinely want to get better, so I’m trying to practice as much as I can. TBH with you, I have a mental illness which causes confusion and makes me lose a second or two here and there, so being a “reliable” raider is a bit of an ask! That’s why I haven’t joined a raid guild yet and got carried.
Still, I’m trying my best and want to improve, which is why I posted here. I tried destro lock, BM hunter and MM hunter. I absolutely loved all three and could see that my DPS was going to be better than frost mage with all three, BUT, I have trouble with rotations where I have to manage resources. I chose frost mage because BIG icons pop up on my screen when I have to cast a spell, which helps when I am unwell! When I am well, and my rotation is as perfect as it can get and RNG is on my side, I am still only getting 15k! I just don’t know where I am going wrong.
/boring story over
Any PRACTICAL help is appreciated So thanks again!
Well for frost the key is to maximize usage of glacial spike and never cast it without brain freeze active (unless it’s on two targets in which case you cast it on cd regardless of brain freeze). Sometimes this means sitting on it quite a while or forcing a brain freeze with ebonbolt. Otherwise you’re using frost orb on cd and spamming frostbolt, praying for procs. Frost is known for having up and down rng: you could do the rotation flawlessly and still be unlucky with FoF procs.
More practice and offerings to the rng gods and you’ll be fine. And if you pulled 15-23k on bosses you haven’t seen before with your gear and a mental illness, I’d say you’re doing pretty well. Best of luck.
Great advice man i’d like to also add you can do some pretty clutch stuff in mythic plus with splitting ice glacial Spike and your pet’s freeze ability. Essentially you can go into a trash pull and run dry on brain freeze but force a double shatter with glacial Spike if you use your pet’s ranged freeze a split second before gs goes off. If your pet frost Nova is down you can begin casting gs blink to a closer range where frost Nova will catch them allow gs to go off and cast frost Nova. This one is a little more tricky but it allows you to chain shatter on targets and follow up with an ice Lance that is empowered. I hope these tricks help you out in mythic plus and the main thing is just practice man.
Why be hyperbolic in the first place. I’m just trying to figure out when you quit, because it doesn’t look like you even really played in the first place?
