The one from hearthstone where he looks like a paladin with a mace and shield.
Ragnaros died. So did his nobody replacement.
We need a Firelord who is eternal. A Firelord who burns bright for all of time.
We need Firelord Ordos, the Burning One.
Nah, I am OG 2004 player. Iāll take a reincarnated Ragnaros over any imposter elemental lord.
⦠besides in the words of Kaelāthas, āmerely a setbackā.
I dunno he doesnāt seem so happy about his lot in life. YOU WILL TAKE MY PLACE ON THE BURNING BRAZIER!
If Ragnaros comes back, do you think heāll have two more legs?
He was already reincarnated.
Then we stuffed him in his home.
Once upon a time WoW used to be an inspiration for Hearthstone but the last few expansions have shown to be the opposite too (Mrrgglton).
Pretty sure āRagnaros the Lightlordā is from the old god expansion where they did a flip of the script and turned him from an elemental tortured into evil by the old gods into a being of light.
I donāt actually see us both bringing him back and trying to Lightforge him. We donāt really rely on elemental gods because it would be equally bad of us to try and force one element into another. Maybe as a villian if Yrel comes from another dimension and starts taking over the planet?
Yeah in cata, I think his ankh cooldown is up again and they need to bring him back again.
There is an entire generation of younger gamers who have no idea about Ragnaros⦠lightforge him back into existence from Alternate timeline if you like, rather than bringing back the one we killed.
Point being, he is the OG raid boss larger than life lord of blackrock mountain.
Edit: there is not a single end of raid boss that compares IMO⦠well maybe Deathwing.
I wouldnāt mind seeing old Raggy back again. After all, we were told he would be.
But I would prefer to see him as himself.
Now that would be an interesting forum question:
Who do you consider the OG raid boss? And why?
I bet Arthas would top the charts!
I was rather underwhelmed by the Arthas fight but lore wise maybe its larger. Tanking those Aboms and ghouls, and getting out of defile⦠just felt like he wasnt the main threat, it was all the other stuff going on.
Ragnaros on the other hand it was all HIM!!! BY FIRE BE PURGED then BOOM massive blast to the face⦠and that knockback!!! and the lava splashes. By todays standards really really a basic fight but 20 years ago⦠it was hardcore man, farming 40 man resist gear and pots because it was just āthe done thingā. Also dude just one shots a literal unkillable second last boss.
And I honestly think that the character was uninteresting beyond the fact that he was the first End of Raid Boss.
Besides which there are characters who I would argue are Much bigger and more impactful on the lore; Arthas was the OG to end all OGs in terms of weight that he had in terms of the lore and build up to his last stand atop Icecrown and you had both horde and alliance perspectives built into him. By comparison Ragnaros is just some angry guy.
Thatās just because he was only half-elemental last time we met.
Since we killed him outside of the Firelands his elemental half should have regenerated without that pesky flammable meat half.
I maintain my argument that Ragnaros is and always was a Paladin.
Ragnaros was a self righteous mace-wielding holy warrior.
His dialog lines like āby fire be purgedā and āthe hallowed coreā show that he believed himself, the Element of Fire and the places where he lived as sacred.
āBut what about the Light?ā
Fire emits light. Ragnaros was made of fire. Ragnaros emitted light.
Blood Elves worship the Light of the Sunwell. The Draenei worship the Light of the Naaru. The Tauren worship the Light of the Sun. Night Elves worship the Light of the Moon. Trolls worship the Light of the Loa.
Ragnaros worshiped the Light of Ragnaros.
Why in Godās name theyād call this āLightlordā is beyond me. Fire isnāt Light. That hammer isnāt Light. Weird take by Hearthstone.
I kind of like the blank slate bosses that you can project onto. The ones that are just visually awesome and sound epic. I see Ragnaros as a manifestation of the elemental power of fire, not a personified entity that can be slain⦠you canāt kill fire, so you cant kill the representation of its elemental force⦠In the words of V (for vendetta) you cant kill an idea.
They kind of sidelined the horde anchor by saying Arthas overwrote Nerzhulās will. Its like⦠not even the legion could kill off Nerzhul, yet arrogant little cry baby arthas pretty boy could⦠no way, to me Arthas was just jarring plot armour.
Some angry elemental lord. Arthas is just a guy, Ragnaros is the manifestation of an elemental power and a pillar of the universe, its not like a dragon aspect title that can be thrown around HE IS the living flame.
There is shadowflame (void) and lightflame (light)⦠its like Naruto different chakra infusions.
Then you must have been ecstatic with the Jailer.
I was referring to the relationship with Sylvanas but regarding Nerāzhul: He was the original lich king in that his soul was fused to that suit of armor after Draenor exploded so that the Legion could use him as an overlord for their undead crap stacks. Once Arthas put on the armor though, itās not unreasonable that he could have overridden Nerzhulās control/soul or formed some kind of hybrid with it.
I stand by my comment. Heās an angry guy.
Arthas pretty much destroyed the alliance of lordaeron:
- Lordaeron: dead
- Quelthalas: devestated.
- Dalaran: destroyed.
- Stromgarde: done.
The only extent powers that survived it were stormwind (as far away as possible.), Ironforge (also pretty far away), Gilneas (who were basically non-participatory allies that never really helped anyone with anything) and Kul Tiras (off shore).
Not bad for āJust some guyā.
No, heās just a really big elemental tied to azeroth that we slapped around 20 years ago and then wandered into his demiplane to feed him his lunch in what was a mid expansion raid.
No specifically because they tried to connect him to all previous lore and recontextualise the story around him⦠if he was a stand alone blank slate, the catastrophic mess that was SL would not have been so bad.
I still reject forsaken being horde!!! to me horde is the WC3 races - Orcs, Trolls, Tauren and goblins (though not the wow gobblins we have now).
When he was being tortured by the legion after stepping through the portal fleeing Dreanor, they specifically mention his mental powers expanded exponentially. Was it the armour that had the power to control the undead or was it Nerzhul who developed that power and the armour was merely a prison for his essence (SL ruined the lore and answered the question no its the armour/helm blah blah). Again this is why I like blank slate/room for interpretation. It usualy massive degrades the quality of a story once its explained - like a magic trick once you know how its performed.
Lord ( reference)
I hope thats not the case but its up to the writters now I suppose.
I also want to see Hakkar and Sire Denarthrius back. I dunno I am weird, I accept that.
