Kinda spoilers, kinda not. I’m not sure if this was part of a press release or a data-mine.
But Orweyna is in important character for a new race. That uses the Night Elf rig. But the women have a little bit of a belly, and the men look less ripped, more stocky, and have a blood elf or human chest.
A lot of people, are saying they’re like Elves, due to their ears, and that they might be a missing link, since they can use troll tusks.
But they honestly look more DnD Bugbears, and thier WoW fashion chose is very Fairycore, and they’re tied to nature. The ears give away the Bugbear bit to me, and they have an option for a more bestial nose.
Which in DnD Bugbears are a goblin type. Not an Elf type.
Anywho, the race is called the Harronir and I need them like now.
In the context of WoW lore they do appear to be the missing link, since the lore actually mentions an evolution relation between trolls and night elves. So while they share similarities with outside content (like much of WoW with DnD), within WoW’s lore I’d personally agree they do appear to be a missing link in the evolution line.
Either way, I want them. I don’t think we’ll get them, but I want them.
True, and I do see obvious kinda merger of Troll and Nelf, like they even use Nelf animations and frames.
But then again, we don’t have a missing link for:
Night Elf to High Elf
Zandalari Troll to any other troll tribe, since last I checked the other trolls evolved from Zandalari Trolls, based on their environment, culture, and magic types.
There are some other cases, but those are the bigger ones I can think of.
Like I won’t deny the potential of them being a missing link of sorts. Espeacially given the implied lore of the area they are in. It’s heavily implied that they are the caretakers who safeguard the roots of Elun’ahir. That are mentioned in the in-game lore books in the Emerald Dream. They’re heavily nature themed, and what we believe to be thier leader, wears things you would see a Sims 3 Fairy in. Not to mention that while the cool cave eyes they have could be that, the blue glow could also be an Elune thing.
HOWEVER, given that WoW doesn’t really or hasn’t really done much with missing links before, and a lot of races don’t have the most FLESHED out origin story. It doesn’t seem likely to me, that they are intended to be a missing link, personally. But then again with them touting that they’re uncovering conspiracies and mysteries. This could very well be plausible.
