I understand that M+ can be frustrating for everyone but people insulting each other and belittling each other only makes matters worse.
You absolutely must enforce stricter rules against harassment. Not only will it improve the success of M+ dungeons, but it will make players less likely to quit your game.
What prompted this: One of the DPS on the first boss started spamming “LUST LUST LUST” and got extremely upset and began to insult the Shaman. So a missed lust, honestly wasn’t a big deal because it was a low key. But it set the tone.
Next the healer was missing a few dispells, which caused me to almost die on the tank. So I used more cooldowns than I normally would, but the DPSes wanna rush by leading ahead of me so I go ahead. I survive but this sets the tone again, the hunter and rogue are just mentally preparing to insult me.
I screw up one boss mechanic, missing a soaked orb because I’m already feeling a bit off from this whole experience. Then it happens. “TRASH TANK TRASH TANK”, before we even get to the final boss. At this point team morale is low and it seems like nobody is trying so I keep trying regardless. The healer proceeds to die from an easily avoidable mechanic, we wipe as a result. We go again, wipe again because the same issue although one of the DPS rudely explain the mechanic. Now the third time, I’m tilted and now I miss that stupid spear mechanic only one time, had been hitting them all before.
This guy literally PMs me after the game berating me with “trash tank” and “never tank again” etc. The same guy who left the key, even though we easily could’ve won. But tbh I don’t blame him for leaving the key… but the insults are another thing.
Do these people receive any sort of punishment? Why does Blizzard foster this immature behavior?
EDIT: Almost forgot to mention there was a hint of racism in all of bickering. Which I won’t repeat.
It really turns people off to M+ which I think can be a rewarding experience. I’ll admit that there were two people in my party that were lacking in knowledge of mechanics but they could’ve easily learned. Again, this was a low key. +2 lol. And I always try to be more lenient with that in mind.
Anyway, I do hope this rogue and hunter are addressed in some way. Especially the instigator who truly set the tone.
Report em,and ignore em. When I pug tank which is rarely,if I get a group like what is described in the OP,I tend to whisper an apology to the key holder, and drop.
Basically if they can get away with acting like that, then they will act like that.
Just report for harassment (they should have never whispered you like that), and then grab some popcorn while they then QQ about the social contract on the forums.
It pains me to say but the only way things can get better is if the community utterly denounces and reports that type of thing.
Yeah that’s really my philosophy here. I’d be willing to let it slide in most cases. I’m not gonna stop tanking or give up. But I feel like without reporting them it would just persist.
Edit: One last thought before i go to bed. I’m pretty sure the Shaman muted the person screaming lust and calling him dumb, which snowballed in a way because later on the same guy, albeit: rudely, gave good advice on a mechanic.
So to anyone who thinks: Just get thicker skin! Remember, it’s not really about sensitivity, it’s about effectiveness. They won’t be as receptive to things you say after even if you’re playing the dungeon better than them, because it’s likely you are muted for being a jerk.
Hmm, reminds me of when I came back in BFA S3, and I was a lvl 16 warlock, and a boomkin, was trying to talk down on my dps, despite the fact I didn’t have heirlooms or anything else.
I let it go. I don’t think blizz will do much more than what they have done to be fair. It does suck having people destroy your keys though, especially after having worked hard for them. Even if the key is trashed, I’d still prefer completion, but i’ve never had a case where DPS was lacking that much it couldn’t be accomplished. Usually keys are timed. Even if they were talkin smack, I wouldn’t be that upset if the key was at least completed, I can always put them on an ignore list after, but having to spend an additional 30-40 mins doing twice as much is just a waste of time. Esp if you’re just tryin to do a couple keys for vault or whatever.
theres a few unstable humans out there, its fun to call them out on their play, cause therye usually bad. id just say report and hope for the best, just def specify if theres racist comments goin on
At some point it needs to be acceptable to inform someone when they’re doing poorly. I just healed a +11 HoA an hour ago where a Warrior with 65k HP was doing (and this is no exaggeration) 2-3k DPS on every boss in the entire dungeon. Luckily we had a 3200 IO DH tank, so he was doing massive pulls and kiting necrotic well, so it saved the key since boss fights took 5 years–and no one said anything to the Warrior but watching Details during the dungeon I couldn’t help but wonder how many keys this guy has ruined for people. lol
Toxicity works both ways, even if someone isn’t being a lunatic in chat.
Yup, any punishment for people raging/leaving should also be applied to people inting keys (dps doing healer dps, face pulling mobs, not kicking etc etc)
So i have been tanking lately
I have seen ppl make mistakes and ppl who just flat out dont know things.
What breaks my heart is i have had ppl
Ask to be kicked or get embarrassed and leave
Dps and heals beat themselves up
Non meta lite up cuz they got invited
And i have whispered players saying things like u did awsome or u wanna run again and even hey if u wanna learn how to do keys add me
The replys are always omg i thought u where mad at me
And thats sad
Recently my most toxic experience in game recently had been grinding normal dungeons for xp on a leveling toon.
I keep getting in these groups with ultra geared level 60s who have no business being there. Half the time they are cool, other times they’re being ultra toxic, pulling for my lowbie tank. I pull at a rigorous pace normally but it’s not good enough.
This kind of thing is exactly why I don’t usually tank for pugs. This behavior is likely a contributing factor to the tank “shortage.”
I think Blizzard removing renoun drops from normal would improve the quality of life.
Yeah, I’ve leveled a few characters lately, and I keep seeing this too. Why the hell are mythic geared 60s spam running normal leveling dungeons, and why in the sweet hell do half of them get upset that there are sub 60s in said leveling dungeon?
I’ll never understand the silky cerebrum some people have.
