They gain very little exp after they gain 1 rank. If your toon levels they lose a rank when you gain a level. It is infuriating! I have to tame a new pet roughly every 4 levels because they just disappear. Even at classic launch there wasn’t these problems. I was there.

Also training points go into the negative, i.e -45 training points?
Here’s a new one, hunter pet disappears when you change zone. SIGH!

Having the same issue here. I have stopped leveling my hunter till this is fixed. I don’t recall ever having these issues fifteen years ago.

Having a similar issue, where my pet’s training points went from 3 to -257 when it gained a level.

Same here. Mine has gone in the negative also my UI is bugged and says raptor is happy on the pet selection character tab but on my screen he’s unhappy. I was level 6 (best friend) for along time and just tonight it went down to level 3 and now my points are all negative -137 . I always make sure I keep my pet fed to happy .
I can’t even tell when I need to feed my pet now and I’ve contacted support twice and they have absolutely been zero help . I’m glad to know I’m not the only one experiencing this bug.
This all started to happen to me 3 days ago when I got ganked and after whatever update patch they did . A week ago my pet was fine .

This happened to me last night , i had just gotten Brokentooth to level 60 after having him for 2 weeks and the day after i was in felwood farming tubers and within 2 hours my pet went from (best friend) to rebellious and when i realized what was going on i instantly fed him 20 roasted quail and dismissed him so i could make it back to the city and when i got back and tried to call him said i had no pet (ran away) im assuming but this is obviously not right. i played hunter in vanilla tbc wrath, you could go a day or 2 without feeding your pet if he was best friend. on classic i didnt feed my pet for an hour and he was only showing (content) not even unhappy but yet his loyalty levels dropped from 6 to 1. obviously a bug and blizzard basically told me “to bad, were looking into it” also stating that it was more of a forum discussion and i proceeded to tell him that there were hundreds of people experiencing the exact same problem going unanswered on forums.

Haven’t played my hunter in 2-3 weeks now. Good riddance.
Your pet gains training points as you play with it. First, it gains from 1-6 loyalty levels. These are acquired over time as you spend time with the pet, whether you are fighting or just knocking about. Getting to level 6 (best friend) may take more than one session of gameplay.
Your pet levels as you kill mobs that are green --> for YOU. Pets stop leveling when they reach your level.

People have reported losing training points after respeccing the pet. Did you do that?
This usually happens because of not being fed. I recommend you get the Weak Auras feed pet. This one for example:

my pet has not gained any tp’s in 2 level. seems to be stuck at 17 tp. never had a problem til 2 days ago.

I’m also having an issue with pet loyalty. I had brokentooth from level 39 and never once had issues until recently. ALL of my pets have ran away now. Tonight I grabbed a new worg, took it to Eastern Plaugelands to grind XP of the level 60 Blood Elves while keeping it well fed. The pet ran away despite being happy and grinding for an hour straight. I tried to open a ticket but didn’t get any help or taken seriously.
I’m having this issue too. I have a ticket and blizzard saying no one else saying they have this problem. And they won’t help me unless this is reported by enough people.
