I believe in the company’s incompetence. I believe if they invested enough into making classic as good as it can be. Many improvement that have no negative could be in the game. I think a profession that was known to be problematic back then, would have been fixed before the content was released. But there has been an oversight and I think it very likely it is due to lack of investment into making classic as good as it can be.
dont they have 1 team doing sod and cata at the same time … or am i wrong
There’s nothing broken though. You can find the blip from Cata’s postmortem on the official website.
Cataclysm Post Mortem – Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street (blizzard.com)
It could be punishingly random, especially for players who imagined that it would be a guaranteed delivery mechanism for Zin’rokh (which was never the intention).
Why was archeology abandoned then. And why was another grind as hellish as that one for epic gear never implemented after the fiasco? Your hypothesis that their reasoning for tuning it that way wasn’t something they considered a mistake would be true if they kept doing it. But we know what happened moving forward and they never did it again.
its not that its broken its just trash and that was said before realized how trash it was they vary quickly changed there minds on it and changed it in warlord’s / stop making content for it
Bump for bad luck protection. Plz blizz.
That blip from Ghostcrawler is a bit funny, they add a carrot on a stick to a skill, knowing exactly what will happen and knowing its “punishingly random” and ship it anyway. The intention of us adding items to a skill is for you not to farm them, then why add them at all?
“(which was never the intention)” That parenthesis seems to highlights the addition of gear to the archeology table being an unforeseen mistake to the intended design.
Seems to me you took one line out of the context of it’s whole paragraph.
We wanted Archaeology to be hard to complete. We didn’t want it to be one of those professions you can max out by buying up mats at the Auction House. But random reward systems whose long-term goals are more interesting than the short term ones can feel grindy. Archaeology had too much travel time.
This is the 3 lines right before the ones you quoted. Their goal wasn’t to make archeology a method for people to catch up in gear. The goal was to give long-term goals reward. Gear that will be replaced quickly isn’t a long term goal.
Thinking that it was a mistake for them to add gear to the table when their goal was working against the purpose of short-term gear doesn’t seem wrong to me. If the gear was only for transmog it would make sense. But it wasn’t the case. The gear was good for a short period.
Let’s also remember that the hardest stuff to get from archeology is the gear. The stuff that most people will aim to get for short-term benefits. Going against their design goals.
It will be very hard to convince me that it wasn’t a mistake.
make the mounts and super toys rare make the gear not as rare easy fix
or change the boa’s to be from lvl 1 to 85 and make them norm raid ilvl. make them true boa’s with a little kick
I think it’s too late to nerf or remove the epics. They had to have the foresight to do it before release. Now it would only alienate people who spent a ridiculous amount of time farming them.
I think the best option are simply either buffing drop rate or add a bad luck protection system to cauterize the wound.
Classic era, classic hc, sod, and cata yup
And honestly they should change archy at this point, if only to save people from burning themselves out over really nothing.
The epics are not important enough to lose subs to burnout
I don’t see them doing anything about it and this is coming from somebody who wants it and doesn’t have it yet. I’ve farmed the crap out of it so far.
Think about it…
By the time they get it ready or even dream up a solution that makes sense to them they have to patch it in or Hotfix or something? Then Cata is out fully and we are all going to jump back to our primary goals like regular professions and heroics. Then raids are out and then this stuff is pointless more or less… they know this.
The effort you supposedly put into ptr farming could have been done on your cata live account and you wouldnt have even needed to make this thread.
It is pretty ridiculous, but i also worry about people burning out lol
You haven’t seen nothing yet…
Well I don’t disagree. Honestly, I just don’t try to predict the future when it comes to whether they will fix it before cata launch or not. I try to not even think about which possibility is more likely at this point. I was simply sharing my thought on what I can think of as the only appropriate “fix” at this point are.
They just need to add slight bad luck protection, doesn’t need to make it easy or trivial, but it should be something that every time you don’t get what you want you at least know you’re getting closer even if its a mile away still
#fixarchaeology
It’s not broken, a little nitpick but fix implies that it’s broken, I suggest #BLP… It’s short and gets the message across.
